Default Noob: Truck guy

Hello everybody. I drive a 2001 Silverado with a 5.3 right now, but I'm looking to build a 2007 or newer 'Burb. I joined because I'm looking to squeeze enough power out of it to at least smoke some stock mustangs. I'm researching a t56 swap and I'm looking for info on the LY5 under the hood. This will be my first engine build, and I'm interested in upgrading the top end and eventually adding some boost, but of course, I'm on a budget.

I'm with 99Huggerss on just mod the truck. First I would go full boltons (longtubes, intake, etc). If u put a nicely sized cam in there with supporting head mods (rods, retainors, springs, rocker arms, and lifters if the engine has a considerable amount miles), and a nice intake manifold. With that you would probably be in the 390-420 hp area.

But remember if you want to go FI then you will most likely have to go into the bottom end and lower compression if you want it to last, and the cam will have to be changed too. I would say SC it so u can keep you're longtubes. Boost is a whole new game when it comes to $$

Thanks for the tips. I know the burb weighs at least 6000lbs, and its probably not rational, just a personal preference. I drive an ext cab, I've driven an avalanche, and I just wasn't completely happy. I've considered a tahoe to cut some weight. I really love that rough cam sound. SC would probably be later down the road...
