Default New to LS series

Hi everyone,

my name's alicia and im not to familiar with the LS series as I've driven Jap cars majority of my life. Mainly im trying to get more familiar with it now though as I'm trying to swap an ls2 into one of my cars.

Hope to learn a lot from everyone and thanks for all the advice to come!

I know this sounds extremely noob but

what are the main differences between an ls1 and an ls2 motor? Is there a huge difference in power output?

Also is it beneficial just to get an ls1 block with ls2 heads perhaps?

Thanks again for the advice

ls1: produced from 1997-2004, small bore 3.89in, 346 cubic inches, made anywhere from 315-350 hp 24x reluctor wheel, knock sensors on top, cam pos sensor in the back

ls2: produced from 2005-07? i believe, bigger bore 4in, 364 cubic inches, gtos, vettes, etc had them. 405 hp. 58x reluctor, knock sensors on pass. side of block, cam pos on the timing cover. to convert an ls1 car to an ls2, youll need harness extensions for the knock and cam sensors, a conversion box for the reluctor wheel and a tune for the cpu

you cant use ls2 heads on an ls1 the valves wont clear, unless im mistaken, ls2 intake can be used on an ls1 however.

my advice, get a pair of ls6 heads, ls6 intake and a decent sized cam and call it a day.

also the search feature does help loads but im feeling generous today. good luck and welcome to "Tech"

Welcome to tech! biggest piece of advice would be to use google instead of the search bar, just type whatever you need in google and tag it with ls1 tech!
