Default 1999 Corvette Rebuild

I recently purchased a 1999 Corvette. At 68, I must be in my old-life crisis. In any case, the car has 260,000 miles on it. My first thought was that if I am going to have to rebuild this vehicle, I ought to make it better than it has ever been. So visions of turbochargers and superchargers are dancing through my head with the goal of being somewhat over 500HP.

Having said that and realizing while I am somewhat knowledgeable about motors and such, I thought I might ask opinions of hose that have done something like this either with a normally aspirated engine or not.

Lingenfelter says for $5000, they can completely rebuild my current engine and make 430HP. OK, that is a starting point. That doesn’t quite meet my financial or performance goals. I do have mechanics I trust.

I know the car has had Mobile 1 in it from day 1. Is there any reason to believe I might still have a sound engine? Maybe I sell this car and put the money into another project. The car runs well and cosmetically is quite good.

What does this forum suggest?

Welcome!

260k is definitely a lot of miles. It all depends on the service history and how well the vehicle has been taken care of. These motors are very strong!

Also, you could get to 430hp for significantly less than the $5,000 you were quoted considering you can do the work yourself. Even if you take it to a shop, It would still be cheaper. Lingenfelter comes at a big cost since its such a big name.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Find a reputable local mechanic, rebuild the LS1, throw on some ported heads, a custom cam, and an ls6 intake and you should be golden as far as power goes.

Welcome! Good to see C5s with that many miles still holding up
