Hello from FL.
Hi, this is great website with a lot of info about LS series engines. And reading this website as a guest I know this that folks are not to rude lol
I like Chevy and Nissan, I have a 97 vortec 5.7 2500 work truck (stock) And also I have a s13 240sx with sr in it for right now, soon to be 570sx.
I orderd used 5.3 short block that Im going to bore up to 5.7 and complete rebuild from there bearings rods pistons arp and all that good stuff. My goal is 500 rwhp in NA form, I think that should scare me in my 2600lbs baby.

welcome to the board!! where in fl are you? Yeah the 5.3 is such a great motor for potential and a relatively cheap cost. I eventually want to buy a jeep wrangler and swap something ls in. maybe a 5.3 or maybe go bigger with a 6.0 from a truck or something who knows gotta get the jeep first lol

Thank you for greetings! Im in central FL Brevard County. I saw a few wranglers around here with sbc and bbc that are too nasty it dont take much for wrangler to ride on rear two wheels i guess. From my research so far 500hp out of 5.3 is pretty expencive unless you install 4.8 rotating assy and boost the hell out of it. Ive read that some shop did 50 pulls with cx racing tt set up at 26 lbs it made1206 hp. Its nuts. but Im over turbochargers for right now so im after raw na instant torque etc.

I'd start with a 6.0L if you are looking for heavy-hitting N/A power. No big difference in price and you just can't argue with the extra displacement when it comes to N/A numbers.

Only thing that bothers me with 6.0 is extra weight with extra displacement. I cant afford 6.0 aluminum as of today.
Anybody know exact weight difference betwen iron and aluminum 6.0 bare blocks? My research tells me anywhere from 60 to 100 lbs.

I've always seen it listed as around 90 lbs more for iron blocks, but the difference in HP is well worth it IMO. How much difference in price are you seeing from Al 5.3 blocks to Al 6.0? And what about Iron 5.3-Iron 6.0?

Are talking about jeep wrangler CJ-7. Hillclimbing, sand drags or mud bogging?
If you want just four wheeling, screw the HP. I run a 304 in my 72 CJ-5. You can bolt 360 or 401(friend runs). You want low end torque. First lock the axles with Detroits, powertrax or lock rite. that is what I run. Suspension, not for lift but travel(keeps your wheels touching the ground). Bigger tires and lower gearing. Unless you want it for street only. My opinion after 30 years of "rock climbing"
