Default newbie to ls motors want to build one

whats up everyone im new to all the big chevy engines the ls1 scene caught my eye. I got my first project a 1990 single cab chevy i wanna pull out that old used and abused motor. i was wondering if an ls1 swap would fit with out doing any major modifications. If not what motor would directly bolt on to the tranny? then again would it be better if i just replaced the old 350? I'm planning to spend around 4k tops.

Please give me any tips and tricks and newbie advice I'd appreciate it.

Welcome, as far as the swap goes you'll be happier with an LS once it's done. The build process might be discouraging. In the end, just replacing it with another 350 would be much cheaper and easier.
