Jeep guy new to LS HP. will be swapping an ls into my 96 jeep Cherokee xj 2 door.
Not sure what engine I am going to use but probably go with a t56 tranny.
Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Welcome! Where are you located? Will this be a street jeep or a 4x4? Just wondering..I'm no manual trans guy so I have to ask. What transfer cases does the t56 adapt to? Should be quite a jeep when it's done!

I am in Cincinnati, Ohio. I guess I need to fill out my profile.
This will be street. My first time in the Lsx world. I have a done a few Jeep 4.0 swaps on my Cherokees and really looking for something I can throw some power adding mods at. Looking to go somewhere between 300-400 hp when it is all said and done.
I ended up pulling this 5.3 Saturday morning at the jy. First time I have touched an LS based engine. Took me around six hours by myself to get her out.

I have been researching the T56 tranny idea. As the transfer case mounts to the back of the transmission you would need to run a "divorced" transfer case. (there are no adapters on the market right now) That is, if you have room. Plus, on an XJ, looking at a 4 door model, there is no room for the t/c due to the floor boards, once you add a shaft between the trans and t/c. Now if you are 2wd...you could rock a T56! If you are 4wd, use the nv4500. It's about as good as it gets for manual transmissions. Knowing what I know now, I'd run a 4L60 (or 65, 70 etc) with the 231 t/c. Though I would upgrade the 231 with the hd chain. That combination would last and be reliable.
