Talking NOOB, has hell froze over?

Well i'm a long time ford guy, have had several fox bodies and currently own a 98 Cobra-6 speed-s trim-meth injected (in pieces ) ,wife has a 94 gt-stock with basic bolt ons-5speed

I just bought my first LS1 car and couldn't be happier! Very impressed with the power and driveability! Car is a 98 Camaro T-tops, A4 car with a 4l65e tci street fighter 3500 stahl, L.T's with true duals, lid,3.42's, 17"/18" zo6's,and a tune. Was told from previous owner that the car ran 12.50's w/dr's but i can't verify that.

Currently looking for a good head/cam/intake combo, some 3.73's,lca's,the whole nine yards

Wanna run 11.50's and drive that bitch to work in the summer, so any suggestions would be great!

Sounds like a nice street beast, but a cam alone with wake it up alot. How do you like that stall? I've got a 3600 on my SS, it kills my gas mileage, but it sure is fun to drive. Welcome.

Welcome to the site and head over to the Gen 3 internal and external engine forums and there is some good info for what works and what doesn't to achieve your goals.

I find it hard to drive one with a high stall converter "normal", its just so much fun drive hard. Once its locked up, the mileage isnt bad, but in town driving, you can watch the gas gauge fall like a damn meteor.

Pleanty of stuff to read... build will be budget limited but it looks like you've got a decent one to work with so 11.5 (especially with a stalled and geared auto) shouldn't be much of a challenge with any decent H/C/I package. Might wanna look into a 12 bolt instead of just swapping out gears so u can run ET streets at the track. Our 10 bolts break pretty easy under good traction/power. Look around the Gen III Motor section as well as the Dyno Results section and get a feel for what combos are doing what. Bigger isn't always better

id say a decent cam, maybe LS6 heads (243 castings) would probably get you in the 11.50 range, but depending on the size of the cam you'll comprimise some drivability and gas mileage definately. a good tune is a must and a 12 bolt should def be on your list as well...welcome to the lsx communiy sir!

I have been doing a lot of reading & searching in the tech section, a lot of good info!

Right now i'm on a 3k budget for modifications until i sell one of my stangs, Livernois has some good deals right now and there right around the block from me so i might go check some stuff out here asap. Stage 2 cam, stage 3 heads are on sale for a good price!

Personally I would look at spending that money on a 12-bolt. That 3k could get you a decent rear and a nice little cam.

Man, 3k is a nice little project starter! I am like others though, you really dont know how much a cam will help since you already have the stall.. I just got mine installed and wow.. huge difference. Just try and be easy on that rear, they dont like it when you start changing those gears.
