Default 383 tear down, more damage than I thought

Well I finally took my 383 apart because it was making a knocking noise. So this is what I found I wish I just had a bad rod. Notice anything missing in the first Pic.

This is the damage that TB screw caused

And this is what it looked like when it was spit out.

BTW I need a stock lt1 head bad I will buy a set of stokers if someone has any.

Wow thats crazy. I've seen that happen a couple of times. Are you rebuilding and just getting a new piston and head or what?
I'm guessing your running forged pistons because hypos have been known to self destruct with something tiny like a screw.

Was the bore hurt? Why do you want a new head? It's not that beat up. Check the gasket areas with a machinists straight edge, check the valves and seats if if theres no deform or crack run it.

It is hard to tell from the pic but the head is cracked and bent up at the water jacket.

I am going to get one new piston, they were off the shelf Ross Racing Forged pistons. The bore looks fine.

I am thinking of buying a head and cam package at the first of the year from AI or either converting to an LS1, which for some reason I just want to keep the Lt1 in the car.

That is one of the worst feelings. It couldn't have "just" been a bearing or something, it had to go and tear everything up.

Good luck getting it running.

Ive got a set of ported stockers I'd let go pretty cheap if you want. They came off a 383 that trapped 118 in the quarter the only time I had it down there on 2.73 rear gears. I switched to a set of ported darts :-) Send me a PM if your interested.

I have decided I am going to do a nasty NA lt1 build since I already have a mean LS1 car. I always enjoyed outrunning ls1 with cars with lt1 power. I will start with the build at the first of the year after I finish the tunning on the 99SS.
