Default Too much play in steering wheel. Not steering column

I posted this on LTXTech but haven't got a solid answer yet. I have a pretty good bit of play in my steering wheel, and I think it has to be in the steering rack. I do not think it is in the steering column or the rag joints because the last point of rotation is where it connects to the steering rack. You can see the connection to the steering rack rotate as you turn the wheel, so it can't be the column.

In this pic, it rotates exactly with the wheel turning at the part circled.

What do I need to check/tighten/replace to fix my steering play?

Sound like the rack is worn out. Just make sure that its not the rag joint. Once thats out of the picture the rack is the only thing left. Good luck.

could be inner tie rods or outer tie rods. You can check those by jacking up the front end and shaking the tires by holding the tire at 9 and 3 olclock. while shaking it back and forth look for the point where there is movement in one part but not the connecting part.

When i first got the car there was a lot of shake in the steering at high speeds. I took it somewhere to have the outer tie-rod ends replaced. He said the inners looked OK, but this was maybe a year ago, and even before that the loose steering was there.

I had this exact same problem before. I kept tightening that bolt right where the circle is, and it would fix it temporarily (about 15 min or so) and then would have play in it again. it's right where it connects to the rack, it wiggled some. While i was driving down the highway it would switch back and forth between pulling slightly left, and slightly to the right, and going straight. I couldn't stand it at all.
I bought a rack off a B4C interceptor, but ended up installing a flaming river manual rack I had laying around instead.
