346 forged or 370 iron forged for 150-200 shot?
OK so my stock block threw a rod and I need a new short block. Im planning on running 150-200 shot of N20 on it and wondering which block would be better? 346 aluminum with forged internals or 370 iron with forged internals. Both I can get for the same price but will pick up weight with the iron block obviously. Im planning on running stage 2 5.3 heads with around 11.1 maybe higher compression. Will the added displacement make up for the weight difference in the 370? Money is a major concern as I dont have alot.
Thanks

FMS has been spraying over 200rwhp to a forged 346 for almost two years now. If the tune is safe you shouldnt have a problem. FWIW, my car is at FMS right now having the TNT F4 plumbed into the intake. Ill be shooting 200 also

I wouldn't think you will need to go to the iron block until you want to start spraying a 250 and go up from there.

that ARE guys just did a 400shot on the aluminum block, granted it's all really high quality parts, but basically you are asking about it in terms of block durability since the only real difference is that. also, that extra shot that the iron "could" take, would be wasted by having 90lbs over the front end. so unless you are planning stroker, go with the forged aluminum setup IMHO

I think a 400 on a stock aluminum block is pushing it past the limit. Not saying it can't be done but for how long is my question? Thats a hell of a lot of stress on a stock block.

Well, remember it's a resleeved block if that helps anything, and they just upped it from 350 if i read the post correctly in the drag racing section. But the original poster was talking about 200 shot max, which I would personally take the 90lb savings and use the aluminum block. You still use the same internals with whatever forged units you had in mind. The only advantage I would think is in the 26ci increase, but again, that's at a huge weight increase.

I would say it depends on if you plan on DP or fogger set up. I would only go up to 150 or so on a fogger, cause I think after that you have deminishing returns and can cause puddling in the intake and blow that and you maf to ****. I would recommend a DP and 346. If you were planning on being in the 300+ range spraying I would think about the Iron route

well, im Bias here, but it seems as though either would be a viable solution. dont think i personally would be doing a 400 hit on an aluminum block, but hey, if it held, why not?

There was a guy spraying a 300 shot on his stock bottom end..(Brook) 99redhawk and of course he blew it but after 10+ bottles...I think on a built bottom end, you can spray a 250 shot fine (DP) no problem on alum block with the right a/f ratio....
