Chevrolet Performance LSX Challenge Series and LSX Shootout - Did you have a good time? Let's hear it!

Me: I broke my turbo two week before the race, and found other problems, so I packed up the ol' tow truck with energy drinks and slim jims. Left 5:30AM on Friday and rolled in at 1:30PM. Decided to enter the Truck Index and True Street, selected 14.0 for both. Racing both classes was a lot of fun because I got to get a lot of racing in on Saturday. Friday nite I chilled out since I was pretty tired, though someone mentally challenged dude kept pranking my truck between the zipties on the driveshaft and unhooking my shifter linkage. True Street was fun, I drove and Nine Ball took pictures for GMHTP. I lost to some guy who's times were all over the place, but he miraculously averaged a 14.02. Sunday came around and I got to the truck about five minutes before they were running the Truck Index first round. I got in line, a few minutes later got to run, and forgot it was a pro tree (duuuuur). Went a 13.9 with 150 lbs of junk in the back. Started driving home back around 5pm. That 8 hour drive solo got a little rough, so to kill the time I put the cruise control at 120mph for a while on my 2nd tank of gas. I actually shaved off a half hour. :)

The cruise was enjoyable as well. We got to see a few interesting races during that 30 miles.:naughty: All in all, we had a great time and will be back next year.

We had a amazing time. Especially bringing a brand new vehicle that had never turned a tire when we unloaded it.
My GMC Canyon was in a thousand pieces 30 days before the Shootout. We worked a ton of hours right before the event to make it. Jim @ Powski Racecraft Engineering installed my roll cage and rear suspension in less than 2 weeks. The guy's at Thompson Automotive worked through the weekend prior to the event to finish my engine, and ran it on the dyno. Brian Thompson delivered it to me on Monday night, the week of the race. We finished the truck (except that it would only start every once and a while) on Thursday night around 5:00, loaded it into the trailer and drove 13 hours to Memphis. The updated MSD controller (thanks MSD) arrived in Memphis on Friday morning. We loaded the dyno software, and the engine ran perfect. Dave Goldie from QA1 offered advise on shock adjustment, and away we went. On the first pass we found my new holley did not have jet extensions on the rear jets, but aside from that we never put a wrench on the truck the rest of the weekend. Running 10.40's right out of the box made me really happy. I even got lucky and won the first round. Second round I went red, but considering I had not made a pass on the dragstrip in over 5 years, it was all good.
I was able to meet up with old friends, make some new ones, and really enjoyed the quality of the cars in attendance. Many of you guy's and gal's have very impressive cars and trucks, and I look forward to meeting more of you in the future. We will be back next year.

This weekend was probably the most fun I've ever had at an event. The cars, the people, everything was just awesome. It makes me really wish there was more than one LSX gathering a year, but I'd most likely go broke trying to attend them all. My only regret was not having more time to walk around and meet more people. It was a blast!

I think everyone would agree the drive home absolutely sucked! I passed a few trailers on the way home. Came around the New Era guys caravaning down the highway too.
I had an awesome time, and took a ton of pictures. A couple of things that really stood out to me. Number one, the high volume of guys with total confidence in their equipment. It says a lot to driver a car hundreds, upon hundreds of miles to race track. Run it balls to the wall in the single digit range, and then drive her on home. Thats badass.
The other thing that I thought was neat, was how welcoming some of the big name crews were. I hate chickenhawking all over someones car, but theres just so much cool shit out there, you have to check it out. I feel its always proper to ask permission to check out someones car in their pit, especially take pictures of them. I was amazed at how cool the Ohio Boys and LSExtreme guys were. They invited me to check the cars out, even opened doors to let me see inside. Really stand up guys, with some badass rides.
Id also like to make a suggestion for next years format, can we PLEASE get a six speed bracket!

I had a great time! I think josh, joe, joe from Kentucky, and our 2 FLA buddies adopted my mother-in-law as the new "cook-out race event mama". She cooked all weekend and I think everyone loved it!
We could not get the car to run a 10.50 due to transmission failure - it would not shift out of 3rd gear. We made a last-minute (tough) decision to change our index from 11.00 to 10.50. There was no chance we could make it run 11.00 even with trying any sandbagging. I was really disappointed that I cut a .004 on the Pro Tree and still managed to lose second round. Since the car would not shift it ran a 10.70 and the other guy ran a 11.55 on an 11.50 dial. Pretty good. Maybe next year I will finally make it through second round. I would like to see reaction times calculated into predicting the #1 qualifier and I guarantee this would change the order. We are testing the car now to see if anything else but the trans. failed.
We had a great time at the Early Bird Party - Sean won the $500 Holley Gift Card - Should come in handy for a 92mm throttle body! As always the BBQ was great and we enjoyed talking to Scott and Aaron from NMCA again, and also the GM guy.
On Sunday before 1st round that gust of wind came through and sent one of our friends' tents rolling. Needless to say I was holding a cup of hot coffee for Sean (husband) which went pouring all over me in my face and hair when I diverted my attention to running after the "flying tent". I never knew how hot coffee felt! So all day I made friends with the bees in the area but it was funny looking back now!
I was sad to see this great event end - but am looking forward to 2009!

I had a great time! I think josh, joe, joe from Kentucky, and our 2 FLA buddies adopted my mother-in-law as the new "cook-out race event mama". She cooked all weekend and I think everyone loved it!

I had a great time and I will return next year. The True Street was fun. I did not leave the event empty handed after having my truck cleaned out at the hotel Friday night, I won the 11.00 Index in True Street On saturday and I won the LSX Shootout on Sunday. I took home some $$$$, Plaques, A jacket and a LSX BLOCK. :usa:
Thanks for a great show. My winning's off set my loss from Friday night.
Thanks again,
Rob We saw the police in the parking lot Sat.morning but did not realize that your truck had been broken into. Not good.Sorry to hear this.

The LSX Shootout was a great time. We made the trek but without an LSX car. If I made the journey again next year, I am pretty sure I will be driving my T/A just to fit in with the crowd. I know I won't race it unless I somehow happen to get the cash for a 9". Even then, it is a long haul to pull it or drive it in case of failure. All of you out there that drove modified cars over 500 miles, all I have to say is you are extremely brave and stand behind the parts and setup you have.
It was finally nice to see some fast GM stuff. Pretty much all you hear about it fast Mustang stuff but the LSX world hasn't taken off in MN...YET!!! The big boys (Fereday, Kempf, Major, Turley, Brown, Filipowski..etc) were amazing to see and even better to see run down the track.
I want to say thank you again to Steve (with the Blown LS1 RX7) for passing one of his rooms on to me. It is well worth staying at one of the host hotels. It is neat to wake up in the morning and walk around the parking lot and check out some of the cars that are there. It was also a good time talking with Brent @ EPP. He seems quite knowledgable and really easy to work with. Should I decide to do any additional modifications to my car (I don't know why I say should), I am pretty sure I will make the trek to EPP for the tuning. It sounds like a good deal and they seem to really please the customers.
Look forward to possibly meeting more people there next year. Also really looking forward to seeing how fast everybody goes next year. I am sure a few will figure out some additional secrets.

Yes my truck was broken into.
The hotel (owner & manager) said that they never had a problem like this in the past.
I asked if they have a outside camera, They said yes, Just the one on the side of the building. I asked to see the video. They said it is not clear. This is when I told tell that my vehicle was parked where this camera is located. The surprised look on there face said enough. A detective came out to investigate a few days later and asked the hotel about the location of my vehicle. The hotel said that I was not parked on the property and that I was parked in the open lot next door. I inquired about there insurance. I was told that there insurance will not cover my loss, "our insurance will not cover anything like this."
Many loop holes here. They lied to myself and to the investigating detective. Little do they know about who I am, who I know and what I know. My background is investigative work (auto crime). Now that I know who there insurance is, I have filed a claim with them and I have also informed them of all the details. Safe to say that I will be installing a camera that we would use at work in the truck. There will be an alarm on the truck and also a video camera's activated my power loss. When the doors open, The camera's are activated. They work great and are very clear for such a small camera. Maybe I will stay at the same hotel next year to see I have the same problem again. :D

I was parked in there lot across from my window. Where you saw the truck with the Poice, Is where it was parked.
Hotel told me later that day that they were looking into more camera's.

The person popped the door handle assembly out and it appears that they put a screw driver in the lock on the door also. By prying the door handle assembly out, The door was damaged as well as the lock. I had to have everything replaced and have the door repaired. I had the door lock replaced Monday morning at a Ford dealership up the road from the hotel. I had to replace the door handle because the truck could not be locked. I did not drive straight through going home (1,090 miles). If I caught the person(s) there would have been a crime scene - since I don't travel alone!!!

I agree with you. Just the Hotel problem was my only headache. Oh, Besides some whinning in the lanes from some people - But that is everywhere. :D
I will be attending the next LSX Index events - count me in for 2009. If there are only 2 events next year, That will be fine for me since I will racing two vehicles next season. I know what you are going to say. I race a WHAT!!?? Yes, It is a Mustang. :emb: (Avatar) I will be running the Mustang in the NMRA, NMCA and also a new event/series that will be coming out next year.
This event scored an A+ from me. The only negative was the PA. This was a track issue. That is why you should have a radio at the track.
