I'm looking at 2 cars right now a, 01 formula and a 94 vette with a 6sp and lt1 and 94,000 miles...Bone stock..runs great...

I owned a 97 TA for 6 months it wa nightmare..I was always working on that car...The previous owner lied about the engine..so this started the issues

Anyways besides the opti...and over revving is there any serious issues with these engines....I've had several people tell me they are an enginers disater..like they fubared these motors..lol....I thought I'd get some judgment from some more diehard Lt1 guys and what to look for and to expect...Thanks

A lot of people say that because these cars usually are a pain to work on. But if taken care of they are very reliable just as any other car. Almost 140,000 on mine and no major engine problems. I think I had to do the intake manifold gasket once. Take care of it and it will go for a long time. I have never been stranded do to my LT1. The only time I got stuck is when the tranny lost all gears and thats not the engines fault.

There are plenty out there going over 200 to 300k . You just have to take care of them.

lt1s are just as reliable as any engine out there....u just need to take care of it (ie. oil changes, tuneups etc)

yeah right if taken care of they are one of the best motors out there...anything you dont keep up you will be working on daily after everything ***** up!! just take care of your stuff and you will have a nice car

but yeah they are a pain to work on but remember he is lookin at a vette...alot easier to take care of stuff under there..easier access on alot of things

I have two! One of them (95 Formula) has 272k on it. I drive it everyday. It burns no oil and I still have @ 120 psi across the board!

I second all of the above! ^^^ My original motor had 166k, when I pullled it to put in my 383! It was running strong, no problems really. I just wanted MORE. HAHAHA. So yes they are reliable, although I after having an impala with an engine bay big enough to stand in, I don't think I could own a camaro, just because they have less room underneath the hood! My old room mate had a nice 1998 z28, but man working on that car was a PITA because of the crapped engine bay. I don't know about the Vette though.

on a vette the whole hood and half the fenders open up and to the front...of course its easier to work on

Thanks for all the input...Yeah on my 97 TA everything was pushed pack and hard to get to ..I must have removed the intake 10 times to get to ****....lol...Long story..

I love working on cars..At least modding them...I just hate fixing the same **** over and over...Maybe I just suck

Get the 01 formula. The LT1 aftermarket sucks, and LS1's have worlds more potential.

^ +1, LT1 vettes are way overpriced to boot. Just think about the fact you are comparing a 94 to a 2001. LS1 engines are easier to work on period. I don't care what people say about that. I have one of each and the LS1 is way easier. You're kind of asking in a biased section any ways.

You will be fine with either car, get the one you like the most. I love F-bodies so I would get the LSx.

I have two and love them. And I find working on them a lot easier than working on an LS1.. LS1s have so many wires and pipes and the intake looks so fragile and like its gonna take you to another dimension. idk lol LT1's are great if you take care of them. Make sure the main things are up to par like exhaust leaks, coolant system, ignition, fuel, tune ups, oil, etc and you will never have a problem.

If we were comparing f-body to f-body, I'd say get the LS1 every single time.

Since you mentioned a C4, though, that complicates it a bit. The LS1 is certainly a better engine, but the C4's giant hood makes it fair easy to work on for an LTx. I say drive both and see what you like better.

I have an LS1 4th gen and an LTx/6 spd C4, and I think the C4 is more fun (and it has a Dana 44 instead of a 10 bolt).

Look at it this way...A lot of Police departments had them in their Caprices with out too many issues, and they got the living crap driven out of them.

LT1s sound a lot better. i already have an LS2 so no point getting another LS motor for me. I drive my SS more than my GTO because i love the sound so much. Long live the LT1
