Default Ran the G8 today.

I got my G8 to the track today. Approximately 750 miles on it when I got there. Very nice day, around 50 degrees, little wind. I made 3 passes which looked like this:

1: I decided to leave it in D for the first pass. I did a very brief spin of the tires to clean them and lined it up. I stalled it to about 900 rpm and hit it on the last yellow.
60'......2.17
330'....5.83
1/8.....8.88
mph....81.38
1000'..11.49
1/4.....13.68
mph....102.15

The car seemed to be shifting into 4th as I was crossing the finish (stock shifts are lazy).

2: I started in sport shift mode and tried the 3rd gear trick. Same on the burnout as the first pass. I left off idle. When I hit the gas it felt like it spun a little and the pass looked like this.
60'......2.13
330'....5.84
1/8.....8.92
mph....80.79
1000'..11.54
1/4.....13.74
mph....102.68

The car stayed in 3rd when I requested it to shift back to second (the trick to keep it from shifting to 4th as it crosses the finish). It stayed in 3rd and my mph picked up slightly, but my ET was a tiny bit off.

Last run I did a 2 second burnout and staged. I used the 3rd gear trick like on the second pass. I left off idle and it seemed like it spun more this time.
60'......2.04
330'....5.72
1/8.....8.76
mph....81.88
1000'..11.35
1/4.....13.529
mph....102.92

I weighed the car after the last run and it was 3990 lbs without me and the race weight was 4180lbs.

Overall I was very impressed with the car. Very fun day and I can honestly say that the car is a mid 13 second car. It might be a while before the mods start, but now I have a baseline to work off of.

That thing is damn impressive. I knew it had a 13.6 in it on a decent day but I wasn't sure if you were gonna grab a 13.5 without going to E-town or Atco. I can only imagine what it would have run there today but the 13.5 is pretty freakin impressive for a ~4,000 pound four door sedan BONE STOCK. Nice runs.

Thats a VERY good time, I bet some G8 owners will be hating on you. Take it to ATCO in November and get a new best for a FACTORY stock car.

Thanks! Yeah, the car definitely ran just as strong as I was expecting, if not a bit stronger. Now I just have to remember that the condition were awesome so that when I get it tuned and run it in 100 degree weather I don't wonder why I only gained a tenth, lol.

13.5@102. very impressive. Where did you learn about this trick to keep it in 3rd?

Thanks!

I joined up over at G8Board.com. I saw it mentioned a bunch, but couldn't find out what it was, so I finally asked and they let me in on the trick, lol. I guess with the stock tune you can go 105mph in 3rd gear before hitting the limiter, so I was actually through the traps before just touching the limiter. If I let it shift itself, my car was in the middle of a shift coming through the traps (shifts seem long). Once it's tuned it'll be fine with a raised limiter/shift points.

The G8 has impressed me in every which way. I would love to daily drive it. I would never be disappointed.

Well when I had to put it away on snowy days.

Im trying to get my brother to look into these G8's. He wants a bigger car than his 02 grand am. They seem to be bigger cars. Do the rear seats fold down? What kind of mpg are you pullin? He's currently looking into a subaru forester. blah

ErikElvis, the G8 is way bigger than the Grand Am. I've had a 1999 Grand Prix (although it was a 2 door) and the G8 has more interior room. The center seat folds down for some extra room, but not the whole seat. As for mpg, I honestly haven't checked and I drive the car very hard when I take it out, so I'm sure it's crap, lol.

Man, the G8 in that vid must have a real mild cam. All those mods and only a 107 trap speed? It spun some, but not that bad. That being said, I really look forward to modding mine, they do seem to take well to mods.

It's 5 more mph that yours. So around 50 more rwhp, seems about right for a mild cam and headers.

And since we're already talking about holding on the 3rd through the traps. In the video it looks like your hitting 4th right at the traps. If you can run the stock setup to 105 mph, it seems like a cammed car should being going through in third with only 107 mph.
