General LSX Automobile Discussion - What to do to make my LS1 louder?

What is the first thing I should do to make my car louder? It has a magnaflow exhaust, but I want it to rumble.

How much do they usually run?

Anything actually done to the car besides the catback exhaust?? Stock engine don't have much rumble as far as exhaust pulse sound..Cam, long tube headers, off road y-pipe..That is about as good as it gets for a start

If I put in a cam do I have to change anything else? What cam? What kind of headers?

The car is stock besides an air filter and exhaust!

I have Pacesetter Long tubes, ORY and Magnaflow catback. It sounds good, get headers and the ory or a 3" catted y pipe if they do emissions where you are.

Cam will add even more noise, even with just headers it sounds good though.

Well from what ive heard, Magnaflow system's arent very loud on a stock ls1. When you slap some LongTubes, it really wakes it up. Get yourself some LT's, ORY & Cutout or switch your magnaflow out for a SLP LoudMouth 2 system.

My exhaust was pretty damn good, with the LoudMouth 2 muffler. Car was lightly modded with a Ram Air Kit, Lid & Ported TB. Used to have a Flowmaster Catback before that. The LM2 was louder....

my magnaflow with headers and ory was so quiet that i had to get a cut-out lol...and no u need more to go with a cam, such as springs pushrods, timeing chain and an oil pump is what i would do along with a cam swap....also a tune!

Mine has a flowmaster cb on it and a cutout. The flowmaster is nice and rumbly, but not very loud. With the cutout off though, jesus that thing gets loud. I would do headers, the ory and a cutout. As soon as I get my headers, I am going to open my cutout and rev the hell out of it. I am gonna try to get a sound clip posted up so people can tell me what they think.

Get a cutout but decide if you want an electric or manual. Elec's are good if a cop pulls you over, etc., you can shut off the car and when he asks you to turn it on..flip the switch...its back 2 stock(no ticket,seen it happen). Or just get a manual, take the cap off, and be loud 24/7.

or just hack off your muffler

Magnaflow is a very quiet system. Almost like stock in my opinion. Look into a Loudmouth 2 or just get a cutout. Cutout is the much cheaper route.

What brand of longtube headers are good with the LS1?

The best are American Racing and Kooks imo.

I dig the smooth sound of the Sweet Thunders. Not really raspy and has a chambered sound.

A :search: can make your LS1 louder, well not really but it can help out with your question.

Cutout +10 or however much we're up to by now. Dirt cheap and you can cap it back up when you need to make it quieter.

I just bought a ws6 that has a borla with a k&n filter as the only mods and it is very loud and aggressive sounding. Turns heads upon startup and a a friend called me the other day as i left a store that was a couple houses down from where he was working asking if i was leaving nearby cuz it was loud enough for him to hear from there. I have been very impressed with this as it is my first borla...

headers, catted y pipe and a cutout will get you the sound your are looking for man based on what i have heard. You could go with a ORY, off-road ypipe but that will give you alot of rasp and i know ur trying to keep a clean sound.

my ta has a loudmouth on it and its pretty loud and it sounds good and i am still runing stock manifolds and cats....
