Default MP3 changers plug-n-play yet?

Been wanting to find a plug-it-up replacement for the trunk changer
that will play MP3 CDs (multiple). Asked before, searched recently
and the last on this seems to be a couple of years stale. Are there
any recent developments here? I guess I could cobble up some sort
of flash player but no way I'm going to buy an Ipod. The ones I have
need special messing-with, to make them get to random play mode
and so on; would like a clean simple swap that remembers its stuff.

Anything?

Default

a lot of the ipod decks can also be used with usb thumb drives.
a small 4gb thumb drive can hold quite a few songs.
i have an alpine ida-x200 and, i will never use cds again.
