317 heads & LS6 cam...
Would it be worth the time and the money to swap those heads and cam onto an otherwise stock LS1 with a procharger? Trying to stay budget friendly is the key. Anyone know what kind of gains to expect with a tune? Thanks for the help.

its not the gains persay, its the longevity. 317's lower the compression and if you do it, budget for gm mls gaskets and 12 point arp studs.
Then once you get the iat's down with an intercooler/water meth you could re pulley it for more boost then you would otherwise ever get to without the heads. The cam, they are nice for the price especially on fi. They like some rpm as well which your procharger will appreciate as well.
or switch to e85......which leads to injectors, tuning, and pumps, so its pretty much a wash $$$ wise probably.

If its cheap then id say its worth it. As stated above the 317's will lower your compression and the ls6 is a good FI cam, so i think if it is cheap enough then id do it. While swapping in the cam though id upgrade your valve springs to minimum comp 918's but preferably some patriot duals. Also, you wont gain anything by simply making this swap. You will need to get a new pulley for the procharger to increase the boost as by lowering the compression you can now add some additional psi to your setup.

Ok, consensus is if the price is right, do it and that the real gains are from a new pulley. I have seen LS6 cams + springs for as cheap as $150 + shipping and I have seen 317's for $200 + shipping. Once you factor in the price of gaskets and fluids, still worth it?

Yes! Thats a great budget set-up. But get heads, springs, pushrods, ARP Head Studs, and GM MLS gaskets. Should run you around $1000 all said and done. And if you can't aford that then you shouldn't be bothering with forced induction anyway. It's not really negotiable, you need that stuff. Tune it for 8lbs or 550rwhp or so and be done with it. Should last you a long time.

I have a set of 317s for sale that would be perfect for you, they are bare so very cheap and you would want to upgrade to better springs with the cam change anyway.
