Default couple o-ring questions

im changing my timing chain next weekend and i have a couple questions about the oil pump o ring

1) is a good idea to replace it or reuse the old one

2) does it have to be a gm part o-ring or will any rubber o-ring work (what size is it)

3) anyone have a gm part number for it

4) is using two a good idea (saw the other thread on here)

any tips

1) REPLACE IT!

2) Why gamble? How did you plan to size it, by eyeballing?

3) 12557075 (costs around $4.00)

4) No.

TIPS:

- Bolt the pickup to the pump BEFORE you bolt the pump to the block

- Make sure the you get the old o-ring out so you don't accidentally install both.

Do not take chances here - a real PITA if you screw up!

Change to a new o-ring - $5 at my dealer... your dealer will have these in stock...

Follow JMX's instructions -

Also, replace the o-ring and bolt up the pick-up tube BEFORE you bolt the pump to the block - this prevents you from pinching the o-ring...this is especially important if you are going with a double roller timing chain...

place a rag between the pick-up tube and the pan so if you drop the pick up tube bolt it does not go into the bottom of the oil pan...

You can try two o-rings there should be plenty of space on the tube; I'm not sure if anyone has tried this yet, however...
