96 motor in a 94 car, cps sensor on 96 causing 94 not to spark with 96 opti??
Ok I was not sure how to title this but those that know me know I swapped my motor out of my 96 z28 into a 94 formula.
I have had no spark, replaced the opti everything no spark. The opti has no high or low.
So I gave it to a shop when we could not figure it out.
They came back with this:
The 96 motor has a crank position sensor, the 94 does not.
But for this 96 motor to RUN you must have the cps signal for the opti.
I have the old harness but would rather just splice in the wires for it.
So some questions:
1) is this true, putting a 96 obdII motor in a 94 obdI car it will not spark due to the newer opti and lack of a cps signal?
2) people have converted over to vented optis so how did you get around this? (I am at work on my sidekick so searching is not an opti right now or I would)
3) if this is the problem where should I splice in and how for the connector and wires for the cps on a 94 ecu/wired car with the 96 cps connector?
Thanks guys hell if you want to text me things that would rock too.

Its hard even for him (Esp with a business to run) to expect a solution without seeing the car and only going off what I tell him.
1) He would be doing it for free
2) He has work to do that pays
3) He can not see it himself
So I am asking quite a bit of him and honestly... I feel bad asking too much. He has a business to run. I will call him when i feel I have solid info but he seemed to make it clear he was busy and could not do it without the car.

Yes and we did the test with a brand new GM Opti and just plugging in the harness and coil wire then turning the shaft and it was sparking.
So I am returning the AZ Opti, charging them and getting the parts together to pull the Opti and put on an MSD one tonight. I should have the MSD one shortly.
