Default Advice on tuning on dyno tires break free!

My new set up is running, however we are having difficulty tuning it. The tires break free of the dyno with 9lbs of boost and the alcohol off it makes 523 hp and 623 ft-lbs. with up to 3 people in the trunk on 325 MT DR, multiple pressures tried breaks free just about every pull. Strapped down within an inch of its life.

Any idea on how to make it hook?

Perhaps the manual boost controller is too abrupt?

Advice on tuning this would be appreciated.

Thank you

Vehicle specifics
98 Camaro SS (MAF set up not speed density....yet)
402 LS2 aluminum (Callies compstar crank and rods, wiseco boost pistons 9.5 CR)
AFR 225 cc heads
94 octane
Borla exhaust (electric cut out closed)
Moser 12 bolt
PST drive shaft
SMC alcohol kit
APS twin turbo (base kit)
Turbo XS single manual boost controller.

VHT. Also if there's concrete outside the dyno, do a burn out and get them nice & hot. Then back on the dyno and put 3 people back in the trunk.

Default Comments on current cam for 402 APS twin turbo

Looking at the performance on the dyno last fall, looking to see if the cam selected by my engine builder will suffice.

I will be upgrading to 70 lb/min turbo cartridges instead of the 50 lb/min.

Will this cam suffice?

Thank you in advance

Comp camps 54-000-11

(I could not find this grind on their web site)

adv dur: Int 293 exh 289
dur@ .050 Int 240 exh 236
Lobe sep 115
valve lift Int .589 exh .578

How does that seem to you for a twin turbo 402?

First, the graph doesn't look like it's spinning the tires.
Second, at that power level, with 3 people in the trunk, there's almost no way it's spinning.
Third, post a graph with the horizontal axis in MPH, and another with the horizintal axis in time. That will tell you if it's spinning, which I would bet a G it's not. It's just not making enough power to.

Sorry to Highjack, but Ed would you mind giving me you opinion on what these torque peaks mean. I'm not sure what to make of them.

Thanks,
Frank

PS. the tune was not complete yet so don't mind the a/f.

It had a loss of RPM signal. If you graph it in RPM, it will show a gap where the spikes are. Any time we see a loss of RPM sig, the graph, when plotted in time or speed will have big torque humps or spikes.

Nice set-up, great numbers...I bet they only get better when all the kinks get worked out.

Can't believe you spun on a Dynojet even if its the 24" roller. I was expecting it to be on a twin roller dyno.

I suppose it could spin the tires on a worn out roller that had the grip nubs worn off but the power isn't there. A problem I see alot on a no load dynojet is the boost will spike and then drop.

The only trick to dyno is to put the rear tires on the front part of the roller. So when the tire grows it pulls harder into the roller. We dyno 1krwhp cars like that with no one in the trunks.

I made 620whp and 752wtq on a dynojet with street tires and didnt spin. So seems like something is off and its holding your car back.

LOL scrolled back and just noticed the original date. At least I wasn't the one to dig up this dead thread.

If the OP is still out there, what were the final results ? Did you ever sort out the issues?

I dug this thread up. If you would bother reading the first post that brought it back up, it was to find out try to find out the results of his combo and if he ever sorted it out. I'm researching different cam combinations in a F.I. 402.

Is it some kind of sin to bring up an old thread around here or something???

Frank
