Default Cruising without Body Parts

hey guys me and a couple buddies of mine are working on his STi and we were thinking about riding around without a hood to see if it would run and pull any harder cause of more airflow. we will be riding around MD/DE does anyone know the law pertaining that and do you have any documents to back that up?

Dumbass.... If anything it would be worse, it would have no aerodynamics.

ditto ...

The turbulence created on the front end of the vehicle due to an uneven airflow surface would negate any benefit from, cooler air and a cooler engine bay. what goes on is that the random turbulence will inhibit airflow over the surface, and that turbulence will in effect create drag. A smooth surface from a hood eliminates the turbulance-caused-drag. That's why on the salt flats those who run don't run only with an engine with a frame cause if it worked like that, we'd see the record holders without a hood and such. Best thing is to get the air to pass by in the least disruptive way possible.

I think the STI has the intercooler right on top of the motor as opposed to the front mounts (FMIC). That's what they are trying to get more air to. Taking the hood off probably won't help much.

thankyou very much i ran my 75 chevy c10 it ran a 12.6 and without the hood it ran a 12.4 so obviously its helping out and thats correct all Imprezas unless its aftermarket they come stock with an STi. we drove the car around the neighboorhood and everything and it ran better without the hood. and it helped upwards of 130-150 and still pulling hard. and idc what you all think that STi would prolly walk alot of the cars on here. thing is freaking nasty lol. im just curious if anyone knows whether its leagal or not? thats all.

thats quarter mile times but if your going for longer distance top end speeds it will suffer from less aerodynamics, but screw it give it a try and record the results and you will know.
also just have somebody follow u with the hood and if you get stopped just say but officer the hood is right behind us. lol
let us know what happens

Thats about as Aerodynamic as a Brick. Also That hood is very heavy and assuming a carb set up w/o filter, it would help due to having increase clearance.

Like said, just run the car like you would normally.

There are no laws in any state that I know of requiring a hood.

I would suggest removing the wheels for decreased rolling resistance.

I wouldnt ride around with no hood. Its just asking to get pulled over. For same results just take the headlights out for ram air. While your doing 150 in your neighborhood like you say it will add like 10 pounds of boost.

When my birds motor is back together I'm running the car with out a hood.. I cant afford to spend money on a cowl hood right now.. and the eddelbrock performer rpm intake and speed demon don't allow me to run enough filter...
