Default It's Time to upgrade my cam.

Well i have had the Torquer v2 on a 112 lsa for around 2 years now.and it has performed well with stock rear end and leaving Real soft netted me a 12.18 @ 115 mph in my Daily Driver. So the cam has done its Job.It drives great actually a little To great i forget i have a cam in it sometimes lol i need a little more Chop. Here is how it sounds now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQZgmvxMHLM

But i have been going to the track more and more latley and think i need to step up to something a little more aggressive. But still be able to drive the car to work and back.Just thought i would get some input while i am looking around at what you guys may recomend

Mods are.
1999 engine with ported 853 heads
M6
Lt headers and x pipe with dumped 10 series
4.10 gears
Bbk intake (soon to be replaced with ls6)
Tq v2 cam
Ported TB and MAF

I'd upgrade the rearend first that way you can beat the hell out of it at the track.

The LG G5x3 will run great at the strip, give you the choppy lopey idle you want, and still let you drive it to and from your job every day.

I'd go with the rear upgrade over the cam upgrade anyday, piece of mind, 6k clutch dumps (if your clutch can survive that). Especially since you are running a cam with the 10 bolt. My 10 is starting to go after being cammed and I have heads waiting to go in as my December project. It's howling now... thank god the season's done.

IMO it is better to have a slipping clutch on the way home than to tow the car from the track for a broken rear.

Rear end upgrade to 9 inch:
Pros
Will handle torque you throw at it.
Can run whatever tires you want, from all out sticky to street
Can be made to your driving desires, ie street/strip, road race, or pure strip
Does not require prayer to the almighty each launch of the car

Cons
Initial Price

If you upgrade the cam further, the chance of breaking the rear increases with the torque load.

The rear end is already being upgraded .i have a 9 inch that i am going to pick up next week if all goes as planed.posi unit with 4.10 gears.so that and the Clutch that is in the car I should be able to Really Launch hard.

I have looked at the G5x3,But it is only slightly bigger than the cam i am running now.I know the cam performs well but i just dont know if i will gain anything from it to my previous cam.I want to stay cam only as long as possible.

i dont think youll see enough of a difference in a cam swap to justify the cost. id say invest in n20 or heads/fast 92.

how can you complain that a cam drives too well?

I have a 2000 Formula 6 spd w/ pretty much all the bolt ons (incliuding fast intake), ported ls6 heads & 4.10s w/ the G5X3 and traps 121-122, best being 123.6. I thought the LG cam was consided pretty big in a 346. If your cam is close to the LG cam seems like your car is missing something. What's the elevation?

only thing really missing in my setup is a rear that will hold a good launch but i will have one in next week .It hard to get a good mph when i am having to leave at around 2500-3k and feathering the throttle .Elevation is usually at 2200+ on a giving day.
