while you have it apart it would be silly not to change it

LT1's tend to develop a lot of slack in the timing chains from what i hear as well, i chalk it up as cheap insurance

theres not much too it , all you got to do it pull the crank sproket , a new gm timing chain/gear are not too much $, do it

or upgrade to a gm hd or double

i kno how to do it but is it even worth it now since im building a completely new motor i just wana ride it for now

It's cheap and knowing it's fresh is always a good feeling. With 50k I say it would be a smart thing to do.

if the timing chain were to break the motor would be trash, easy insurance for $100 for a gm set

not necessary, but IMO stupid if you dont do it. its what an extra $1XX and a few minutes?

just like C5042081 said... cheap insurance.

while your in there u might as well change it out. Those things tend to wear out quick !

If you are on a tight budget, AT LEAST get a new timing chain and reuse your stock gears. The gears will not show wear but the chain will stretch, have slack, retard the cam timing waisting power and as metioned, have a better chace of breaking and destrying parts.
