Default Trading Punches With a Terminator

On my way to the local 1/8th just to have some fun and lo and behold I roll up on an 03 Cobra (this never happens).

The Players: 03 Cobra-33k miles, new tranny with puck clutch, intake, exhaust, cai with head light popped out.

vs.

94 Camaro-120k mile LS1 swap, 6 speed stock clutch, cai, exhaust, weight reduction, 4.10 gear

The roll races: 45-80- I'm in 3rd, he's in 2nd. We leave even and stay even the entire race. I have to lift early for a car in front of us.

40-100- We leave even..same gears(don't know what I was thinking as I should have been in 2nd both times..spuratic races?!)...I jump out and he reels me in by the top of third. When I hit fourth he has a fender on me but I pull back even. By the time I'm even we catch traffic again.

Great races though they would have been better had I been in a lower gear and had my cutout open..but oh well..lets say its a death.

Now to the dragstrip:

I ask him to race and he agrees so I get my revenge and beat him by 2 tenths. He gives his buddy the keys but he never best the first time. It would have been worse but I was hitting the rev limiter going thru the lights in 3rd. Consequently he out mphed me by 5 mph but lost...so its a kill but at the dragstrip

Overall a great day and my first race with a termi. Have to say I was impressed with how well his car ran and he was a good driver. After my 4th run my clutch started slipping so I'm calling it quits for the rest of the year.

I was trying to go to Charlotte but they haven't had a public tnt yet..so it hasn't ran the quarter yet. Calculating it comes out to 12.2 or 12.3. Somewhere around low 12s.

Forgot to mention..after I roll raced..one of the driver's friends asked me how much spray I was using. I told him none yet then let them know it was an ls1.

That's a pretty good time considering the few mods you have.

Nice races. He's probably making a bit over 400rwhp easy so that's sick that you kept up with him like that. Definitely should have been in second, though. What did you run and trap in the 1/8?

The airfilter is directly behind the pass headlight. The headlights side out with 2 release clips (30 seconds to remove it) and most guys do it for additional air but its really useless on a mildly stock car, so the guy sounds like a tool.

Unit beat me to it.

I know about that, I was just wondering what in the world a bolt on cobra without even a pulley was thinking with it...

I used to do it with my bolt on 99 Cobra. If the filter is right behind the headlight and taking it out would have 45 degree air blowing right onto the filter why not do it? Especially since it takes all of 30 seconds to take out a headlight. Its been so long since I was bolt ons so I can't remember if it actually helped or not but if it is a cold night I will do this mod on any 99-04 Mustang. If it is 50 degrees or more I don't even bother.

Difference seems too minor to justify, especially on a close to stock car.

Wait? You've done the same thing at night?? Were you at a track?

Whether it "seems" too minor, the fact of the matter is that removing
the headlight assembly allows lots of fresh, cold air into the intake.

Nice runs against the Cobra, but please...don't ever called them "termis" again.

Yes I only did it at the track. And reguardless if its .5rwhp or 5rwhp the mod takes 30 seconds to do. Pop the hood, unplug the bulbs, pull the two pins, and put the headlight in the back seat.

lol "put it in the backseat"...if you're gonna take the time to take it out atleast leave it out of the ******* car, with such a little gain your making it even smaller leaving the extra weight in the car

Where the **** are you going to put it? On the side of the staging lanes and tell the guy that just bought a drink to watch your headlight and make sure no one takes it?

"extra weight".... like it's not on the car already.. LOL.

Who cares if it gives you .01.. it's free, it's easy, and there is a guaranteed gain. Why not go faster for free?

Why do people do a TB bypass? To keep heat out of the intake. It even costs money.. ($5.. lol) and it's one of the most popular mods.
