Default Me (H/C/I etc) Vs. Modded Evo!

My car: heads, cam, ls6 intake, headers, 4" exhaust, 3600 stall converter, etc etc. the car's best run was 11.88@114.

So i'm cruisin' down sunrise highway, 3 laned highway with traffic lights..with my sis and her fiance. when I see an evo ( evo 8 I think, the last model) suddenly creeping up beside me. I hate to use the term, but he was doing the typical ricer crap. I was staying next to him but he continued to drop his car into a lower gear, floor it, backfire pop, shift, and slow down again. Anyway, we pulled up to a light and he was behind me (no room). So I "LEFT" him at the light. He pulled up on me again and I directed him onto the highway. It's a highway that rarely ever has anyone on it.

So we drove a little down the highway, and I started to slow down to do 3 honks and go. But of course, all wheel drive boy just HAD to stop completely, from a dig. So I stop.. 3 honks, he took off early and AWD launched it. I have almost bald BFG drag radials, so I spun for a second, and the tires grabbed. He was in front a bit cause of his launch.. Then my demon awoken
I started flying up on him.. I looked over and his girlfriend was looking at us like " O_O ." I was catching him on his shifts as well, thanks to my stalled tranny. That freakin evo, one of the shifts as i was RIGHT next to him with the windows open, it backfired and shot flames, the whole left side of my face hurt and my ear was ringing like a firework went off. I creeped up past him, hit about 120 and I had about 3 or 4 car lengths on him at that point.

It was definitely modded, exhaust for sure. I'm pretty sure it had more because whatever he did, it definitely needed a tune.

what heads/cam combo are you running? 114 seems VERY VERY low.

^^ Haha yeah. Well the last owner told me it was 11.88@114, 1.66 60ft. Unless it was 117 im not sure. I found a listing from 2 owners ago here on LS1Tech, it was my car, and it said complete Speed Stage II 5.3 heads, and the cam in the car is a comp 224/224 .581/.581 114LSA.

Yeah something about evo's I don't like either

Have you ever ran 11.88 in your car? That must suck, not knowing what is done to your car!!

Seems about right... Stock gear, mild heads cam car.. I am running 11.91s with my setup, and a shitty 1.7 short time... MPH is about .4 diff in his favor.

Nice kill op...

He (the evo) was probably spraying methanol. In between shifts the unburned methanol gasoline mixture will burn in the exhaust and blast flames out the tailpipe.

Don't hate on Evo's untill you drive one. They're really quite fun all around performance vehicles. Not the best at anything, but good at everything.

Nice kill, man. I wouldn't call your car a H/C/I car, though, because going from the LS1 intake to an LS6 intake is less like putting an aftermarket intake on your car and more like upgrading to a stock intake. I would just call it a mild H/C car like mine.

stock 3.23s i believe
It sucks, the last owner said it was a "Super Street fighter 3000 stall" converter. And a listing from 2 owners ago says its a TCI w/ 3500 stall. So I really have no idea what converter is in the car.. Is there a way i could tell?

Contacted a previous owner (two owners ago, he found my video on youtube). He assured me it's a TCI 3500 Stall converter w/ Stage II 5.3 heads
Wish I ran more with the Evo though.. Can't wait to run up with a mustang.

That's interesting. One very cold, dense morning I raced an Evo in my then-stock SRT-8 and he was doing the same thing. It had an a-pillar gauge and aftermarket exhaust.

Once I got the initial hit and ran through 2nd and 3rd about 1-2 CLs ahead of him, he stayed right there neither gaining or losing. I assumed it was a bad tune. Perhaps not?

Same here, visually I saw the a-pillar gauge and the exhaust.. and i thought it was a bad tune as well.

It sounds like he wasn't running a catalytic converter.

Can that cause backfiring and pops in a car like that?
