Default Will Stock PCM handle aftermarket Cam without tune?

Hey,

I got a Cam speced out for me and will be installed with dual Patriot valavesprings, will the stock PCM handle an aftermarket cam without getting a tune?

I absolutely plan on getting a tune, I just wanted to know if the stock tune can handle it, as well as can i expect any power from just a cam upgrade & how bad my gas milage is going to change...

Thanks!

Well you would have to give more spec's on the cam you are wanting to get, and as far I don't think it will hurt the motor (car) for a short period (start up and a short drive or so) but we don't have in spec on cam and the other mods on the car. Car wont run right to fullest potental without tune with just about any cam and gas milage will come from rearend (gear), whether its auto trans or manual trans, your driving style, tune and other mods. To many unknowns but I hope it works out for you.

230/240 113

Yeah i totally understand the car wont run to its full potential as well as the gas milage taking a nose dive, but its it still daily driveable until the tune is done? Couple months?

with a cam that size i bet u wont get to the end of your driveway . go with a smaller cam dude. 228ish with a tune.

if u dont want to spend the money on a tune get a 220 or a 224 cam

watch out turning your AC on at an idle.. could give the car a hard time, or kill it. just a thought. Then again, im not really sure with the LS1/that cam. I know my friends mustang does it. lol

you really should get a tune when you go to a cam, especially that size.

auto or a stick?

either way it's gonna constantly die, run pig rich, which you need to be careful of. the tuel trims will be off, iat, timing, it could ping really bad, etc etc

you could be perfectly fine, or you could potentilly hurt the car. better off to just do it all at once imo.

I'm 6spd, but the way you guys talk I'm going to die at idle either way...

Alright well, sounds like I'm waiting till i can dish out for a tune at the same time as the cam swap

Surely i can make it 10 miles to the shop right after the swap right?!?

you should pull the pcm and have your tuner give it a quick once over to adjust the fuel so you can drive it to the shop.

give the rolley eyes all you want, but you asked and we're telling you. I've been there already, so.

honestly man...there are 4 threads or more a week on "should i get a tune after (insert cam here)"....did you bother to read a bit and gain some knowledge or even *gasp!* use the search function....there are so many posts out there involving cams and tunes you would be hard pressed not to find one that is exactly what you just typed...

but to answer your question yes you will need a tune ...everyone has outlined the potiential problems without one already so i wont retype that again...a cam that big will surge and buck like crazy IF you get it rolling....idel will be crazy and will prolly die on you a bit...keep the rpms down on the way to the tuner and be generally careful with it...there is alot of damage you could do without a tune on a cam that big

NOPE! If you cant get the tune for a few months the wait on installing the cam for a few months. then when you have all the funds, install the cam and have it tuned.

Wait until you have the funds to both install and tune. You will not like your car until you get it tuned.

I put a 230/227 112 cam in my Z06 and drove it 2 hours to get it tuned, no issues.
