Question Oil Pressure sensor location

Is there a difference in where the oil pressure sensor is used, either behind the intake or on the side of the block? Also does the computer need this to operate or can I just run an aftermarket sensor and gauge to keep an eye on it?

I am sure the computer does not need it to operate. I think some have put in a mechanical or aftermarket in addition to the existing stock sensor.

93's are above the oil filter. All the other model years are behind the intake. If you want to run an aftermarket gauge cluster in the stock location you can just put it wherever the sensor is. It'll just peg the gauge. Wont set off a check gauge light if you ever loose oil pressure too. Just keep an eye on it.

I believe the sensor used above the oil filter differs from the sensor used at the rear of the block. It may be possible to adapt either sensor to either location. I also believe the early 94's had the sensor above the oil filter.

Yeah I am familiar with SHbox. I was really just wonderin because I am not sure if I still have those two angle fittings, and I think an aftermarket gauge would be more accurate and if the computer doesn't need it I would rather run an aftermarket off the one by the oil filter.

Hmm i guess I will have to think about it.
