If and when you ever go for a custom unit, you should measure. You can use this to guage where your supposed to be.
I dont think it being too short will be an issue, rather if it was too big, as long as you get about 1/2" of slip w/ the DS in place and un bolted, your fine, if it wont move/slip then I would worry.
