Default The 2010 V6 is a bid for the Ricer Crowd.

I say that in offering a truly super hi-tech engine as their base model GM is making a bid for the ricer crowd.

I was so glad that dropped the idea of making the pushrod 3.8 V6 as the base model. While the worked for generations in giving a good foundation of sales and profits to support the market for Z28's and SS's with the "secretary specials" and "wannabes" who could not afford the insurance of the V8 F-Bodies. A new way of marketing is what is needed here.

I am sure that future CAFE considerations hadl alot to do with going with a Variable Valve Timing, Direct Injection DOHC V6, but you can see that such language speaks volumes to the Gen X's, Y's and W's who were born and raised on Honda VTEC's and Mitsubishi G63B's.

Heck my speed mechanic's son was born and raised on SBC's, BBC's and Turbo GN's and T-Type Regals but he and all his friends are big VTEC heads for the same reason that middleage guys like me (49 years) were into SBC and 5.0 Fords. They were cheap easy and accessible.

GM got its back againist the wall. It's gotta do something to be relavent. Outside the US they act like a real car company. Like Democratic party realized four years that it had to expand its base beyond the treehuggers and latte drinkers so GM has to expand its market beyond SUV's and Vette owners.

In offering a 22,000 $ 300 HP V6 Camaro w/IRS that will beat the pants off a Mustang GT is a great start. And the Camaro looks a hell of a lot sleeker and nicer than te BMW 135i which is also 300HP. Who knows when a mild turbo kit we maybe talking LS3 perfomance(or even Nissan GT-R performance) in V6insurance bills

GM's offering a V6 because it always offers a V6. The V6 Camaro models sell way better than any V8 models.

Not sure what that has to do with "ricers" other than the fact that GM wants every car to sell as well as possible to everyone.

They offered that V6 engine because it's what they're using in everything. Look how many cars across GM's lineup use either the normal 3.6 or the DI version. I doubt still using a 3.8 was ever a real possibility. That engine is very mod friendly and should be a good performer, however stock for stock it's not going to beat the pants off a Mustang GT.

I guess I don't understand where this thread is actually trying to go? As far as I'm concerned, the v6 model cars will be the main selling point for potential Camaro buyers. The 300 h is just another reason to buy a Camaro over a Mustang. Especially if you get the performance of a v8 car in a v6.

I don't consider v6 buyers "wannabe's" or "secretaries". The cold hard truth is, not everybody can afford a V8.Not just for the insurance, but for other more obvious reasons, like monthly income... It's just plain ignorance to classify all v6 buyers as wannabe's. Hell, half the v6 owners on this forum have nicer looking cars than the v8 owners. I know for sure cause I own one.

I'm in no way targeting the OP for any statements. Just giving my opinion on the whole v6 subject.

The v6 is for anybody that can't afford the v8 or doesn't want to pay for premium fuel. Its not for "the ricer crowd" its a sales leader so that GM has the money to make a SS and a Z28.

The success of the v8 model's more often that not, largely depends on it's v6 counter-part doing well in sales.

I plan on buying a v6 Camaro the second year it's offered. It will be replacing a F'ing POS Camry if it makes it that long. I already have an 87 5.7 in the garage and an 01 SS. I need a daily driver and for a few MPGs less than a Camry I get 300 HP and a fun car. There is more than insurance and Ricer wanabees involved here.

I don't get the people that are against the new hi-po V6s. What the hell do some people have against technology? If its not smawl blawk in my Comero it ain't Amurican! Can't people just have respect for new things? The fact is that we are now with our V6 cars where we were years ago with V8 cars and that is saying something - and I'm only speaking in straight line performance. Fuel saving and reduction in emissions is a nice perk as well

I dont know if it's a "bid for the ricer crowd" so much as an "attempt to show that our cars have made it into the 21st Century", or even "a bid to win back some jaded buyers who went to Ford or other Foreign carmakers for a coupe with a good all-around package at a decent price".

Think about all the things that are being offered in the BASE Camaro: Direct injection, VVT, IRS, a decent interior and build quality (more than just a speed-platform, something you can ride in and enjoy and not worry about little squeaks and rattles a week after you buy the car?)...

I wouldnt call that a ricer bid. GM/Chevy fiinally wants to prove to all buyers, not just GM die-hards, that they can build and ARE BUILDING cars that people will be proud/happy to own. It's a bid to get people into the Chevy/GM showroom floors, even if they dont buy a Camaro, it's a bid to bring crowds into the dealerships, plain and simple.

That V6 direct injection engine is most likely the same engine
equipped in the 2009 cadillac CTS.

A ricer is not defined by his car of choice, it only makes those with a penile security issue stick out.

"If you buy a v6, or an I4 with a turbocharger and you become faster than me well, well then your your just a RICER with a RICEY econobox. Not a REALLL mans car *real man voice* only those with big penises can and do drive V8 cars!!!"

No, I personally like 8's 6's and 4's... if I could have any nicely conditioned low mileage copy of a modern car it'd be... hands down. A MKIV Supra TT, so what? Does that make me a ricer? No it just makes my taste diverse... Do you know how many minorities rock V8 domestics and make them look like crap? Try California... is someone going to pull a race card out now?

Seriously people need to quit being so damn ignorant.

How does having a 300hp V6 make you a ricer, exactly?
