Hello,

The C6 brakes are larger then the C5 by 1" I believe... if you want to put them on your F-Body the same adapter brackets for installing the C5 will work just fine... but the C6 brakes do require a 18" rotor.

I pasted a link to a C5 install.. please take a look as it might be some help to you.

Hope that helps!

Wow, now thats some serious stopping power.
I think he meant to say wheels. I don't know the size of the rotors.

Yes 18" wheels

The rotor size for the C5 is 12.800" or 13" is what people usually say... the C6 is 14" ....not sure the exact dimension on that.

there might be some confusion...from my research heres what i found:

C5 caliper = C5 Z06 caliper (only difference is red powdercoat)
C6 caliper has bigger pistons than C5
C6 Z51 has yet bigger pistons than C6
C6 Z06 is completely different design as the rest (duh!)

The C5 conversion bracket will work for any of the calipers, but will only work with C5 rotors, 12.8". I am not aware of a bracket that will work for a larger rotor. reason for this is the bracket moves the caliper out far enough to fit the ~1" larger rotor.

also, the conversion SHOULD work with most 17" wheels.

BTW i have C5 z06 calipers, C5 rotors, and ll parts ready for install. I have the brackets ordered.

Good info. I agree, i don't think a bigger rotor will work with the conversion brackets, clearance is close already.

i dont think clearance is an issue with my rims,,,i was kind of confused because i know the z06 brakes on the c6 work with the bracket, i assumed that i would have the big zo6 rotor too not just a c5 rotor.. i did not want to raise 1000 bucks for the calipers i thought i would save some money and get something in between and get the z51 calipers and rotors..im still confused.....

heres what i gather. theres a caliper, and theres an abutment bracket. the abutment bracket can also be called a caliper bracket.

now, most C5 brake adaptor kits are designed to be used with an F-body abutment bracket. those two pieces combined will limit you to a 12.8" rotor.

NOW, the other part to look at is the caliper. the F-body caliper, as well as all C5 and C6 (standard, z51 and z06) all have the same bolt pattern. this is what allows you to use whichever caliper you want of those that are listed. none of that will change the rotor size.

NOW, you cant use C5 or C6 abutment brackets with any of the adaptor kits that ive seen.

i hope that helps.

oh, with the C6 z06 caliper you need to worry about offset and the caliper clearing your wheel. rim size (radius) will not be the issue. basically, the easy way to think about it is, they probably wont clear your spokes on the wheels unless you have a crazy offset wheel or you get spacers.

just make it easy, get C5 Z06 calipers, braided lines, and C5 rotors (drilled and slotted). unless its a track car this setup will be great. my install is waiting on my adaptor kit.

This thread is full of all kinds of misinformation.

Base C5/C5 Z06/Base C6/C6 Z51 all use the same caliper. The C6 casting is a bit stronger, but the pistons and mounting ears the THE SAME.

Base C5/C5 Z06/Base C6 use the same 12.8" rotor and fit under 17" wheels.

C6 Z51 use 13.4" rotor that fit under 18" wheels. You can use Z51 rotors by swapping to the Z51 caliper bracket.

nobody ever said that the "ears" are different.

how do you propose you use a z51 "caliper bracket" on an fbody? ive never seen an adaptor kit that uses corvette abutment brackets.

I didnt know that the pistons were the same size, i was told that they were different.

GTO's are the same caliper too i believe. I wasn't positive if the C6 and C5 rotors were the same size or not though.

GTO calipers are similar, but not the same. the c5 and c6 have larger cooling fins. GTO caliper is more similar to the Fbody one, but im sure someone will point out the differences. Im pretty sure that the fbody calipers are gravity cast, corvette ones are pressure cast, and im willing to bet that GTO ones are pressure cast too.

other vehicles with similar calipers are XLR, TBSS and the 5.3L impala and GP. the impala and GP ones though are slightly smaller, they use a thinner rotor.

Alright I've got a question (just for the sake of having one). Assuming the wheel offset won't interfere with the caliper, will the C6 Z06 caliper bolt up to the C5 brackets and still be able to use C5 rotors? Would that allow it to fit with 17" wheels? Just curious.

.
UMI's kit uses corvette abutment brackets. These brackets also determine pad type. An F-Body pad will fit too loose in a C5 bracket and a C5 pad will fit too tight (or not even fit) in a F Body bracket.

I noticed you forgot to buy these http://www.umiperformance.com/12455799?category_id=117

im not using UMI conversion brackets, im using other ones, that use the fbody abutment brackets.

and yes, from my research the C6 Z06 caliper will bolt up as the "ears" are the same distance apart as the other C5 and C6 calipers.

Most of the C5 conversion kits are designed to use the corvette abutment brackets, the LG brackets are one of the few or the only one that DOESN'T use the corvette abutment brackets. Of course with these you don't cut off the ear on the spindle, you reuse it.

ah ha, yeah those style are nice if you don't feel like cutting on your car or you ever want to go back to stock brakes (I don't know why you would want to swap back though)
