I purchased a knock off hks "Style" wastegate. It worked well at first. It held 8psi pretty reliably, this was on a rear mount system. A few months later I was running up on the highway entrance ramp and noticed 16psi!!!!
The valve in the wastegate was made of steel, not stainless. Condensation built up in the exhuast and rusted the valve shut. Also the valve never seated completely closed, but that was very minor. Thank god I had no damage could have been buying a nw motor

Bringing this back up to see if there is any more input and recommendations on what to get. I just found out what i thought to be an HKS 50mm is actually a knock off version and now I want to change it (mostly cus the mounting flange broke and i cant get a replacement) Wondering what is worth it.

They work great until the valve sticks to the seat and your sweeping connecting rods & pistons off of the pavement on Rte. 10. It's not worth cheaping out.

we use the HKS knock off 60mm waste gate and they work great. Most guys buy one of these when their diaphram rips in the HKS. They pull out the cheapy diaphram and put it in the HKS. The whole uit is cheaper than a new diaphram and the fact that they fit is a testament to how close they are in design. JMHO

Typical use in a race car that sees a few 1/4 mile passes a week is far different than someone who drives his car regularly. Justifying using China-Bay gates because John Doe uses them in his million horsepower race car is dumb as well.
