Car won't start with new key. please help!!
I've got a 2000 camaro Z28 and I lost my keys last week. Just had my local dealer cut me new ones using my VIN#. This is the second time since I've bought my car that i've had to do this (one of these days I'll spring for a spare). Any way I get my keys and the door key works great but the ignition key is messed up. It will turn the tumbler and all my gauges light up but the alarm keeps going off and the car won't turn over. The guy at the parts counter says the key is fine and the service guy tested it also and said it matched what GM says the car should have. No one there can tell me what to do. To me it seems like a problem with the key but they say it must be the car. I've never had a problem before. Is there a way to bypass the security system. This is a really stupid problem.
Thanks,
Rich

I know, I've lived without the remote for a couple years now. But even if it does go off it would always turn off as soon as you turn the ignition to "on" Now I cant get it to turn off and the car won't start. I've tried everything I could think of.

Hoping it's just the wrong key pelet...if one of the small wires on the lock cylinder went bad while getting a new key made would be a strange coincidence.

Thats what I said. The dealer is less then a 1/4 from my shop so I kept stopping in there talking to the parts dept. and the service dept. I'm a HVAC service tech., so I diagnose stuff all day long and I find it very hard to believe that a car that has NEVER had a problem like this just happens to develop a problem during the couple of day between loosing the key and getting a new one. The guy I talked to promised they would look at it today (its was still outside as of 6pm), and I told him to call me at the end of the day to touch base (it is now 7:30 and no call). I hate dealing with dealerships.
