ls3 Pro charged in a 69 Camaro ? Hi guys
I am A Nube from Western Australia and I am thinking about getting rid of my 509 Merlin and installing an ls motor with a pro charger, is this an easy thing to do, I want it all to fit under a 2 inch hood ?
I was thinking of an LS3, but I am open to suggestions, also I want some serious HP as I was originally going to pro charge the 509 with a F1r.
The car will be a pro tourer but will see regular 1/4 mile action.
I would really appreciate you thoughts

Welcome to the site and sounds like a cool car! Id say you would have to go larger than the LS3 if you want to make comparable horsepower to what you would have made with an F1R on your 509CI engine. A nice combo would be a stroker version of the LS3 or if weight is not an issue say an LSx block 427 setup with the 6-bolt heads and an F1 or even F2. Cheaper option would be an lq9 setup run as a 408ci, which is a popular engine around here. It all depends though on the power levels you hope to make as when you start approaching 1000 rwhp your going to potentially run into issues lifting the 4-bolt heads. Some have made over this mark and have had success with the 4-bolt setup but id say if you have the cash look into the 6-bolt LSx setup.

We installed an LS2 into an original '69 Z28 several years ago, we were also forced to install air conditioning in it also! lol
We had thought the ProCharger GTO bracket assembly would work when we did the engine install on this Camaro, although this customer wasn't ready for the added power. I sold one customer the GTO bracket assembly for his 1st gen Camaro and he found out it wouldn't clear the suspension, so I swapped it out for him with the Corvette C5/C6 bracket assembly. As far as I know he got it to work just fine. As has been suggested, check in the conversion section to see who has done what. Bob
