98 vs 99 vs 2000
Hey guys,
I've been browsing the forum for the most part and I'm trying to pull the trigger on a T/A.
Its come down to these three:
98 TA (55k. black.)
99 TA (95k. pewter.)
00 TA (85k. black.)
all three are A-4 and all are the same price.
I'm leaning towards the 98 b/c of the low miles, but have heard that the 98s have more problems than the other years? Can someone give me some more info on this, or point me in the right direction, please.
which would you get... why?

2000 has the z06 intake i believe. i forget what year but they ran out of ls1 intakes and had to use the vette ones until the end of production. also the 98 and 99 have a more aggressive cam but the ls1 intake, so they both have the same power stock, but the 2000 having the z06 intake will a tad milder cam would respond better to mods.

I would inspect all three closely. Check the oil, transmission fluid, body, frame etc. Just because a car has more mileage doesn't mean much. It's how well it was taken care of. Also check the tires and brakes. If you have to replace tires and brakes you could be spending in the 1000.00 range. For that money you could probably buy a full exhaust system.
As far a 1998. You will hear people tell you to stay away from them because of the tuning issue. I have a cam only setup with nitrous and I have no tuning issues at all and I don't have a small cam. No bucking or surging. It has been rock solid since I bought it (3 years). Just make sure you bring your car to a reputable shop to tune it if you decide to get serious into modding. I wouldn't spend the money tuning it if you are only going with the basic stuff (Lid and catback). Good luck!!!

1998 LS1's also have weaker rod bolts, smaller fuel tanks,No check guages light when you are low on fuel. On the good side they have bigger injectors and a different cam than 99+. I would personally go with the 99 or 00 even though i have owned 2 98 LS1 cars one with 157k and one with 146k and they are still going strong today

on the bright side a 98's temp gauge works better then 99-02 lol if i were you i would try to find an 01 or 02 its nice to have the ls6 manifold etc. even though people say the cam is smaller its such a slight difference it doesnt even matter especially since you will probably be putting a new and bigger cam in it anyway but if those are your only choices get the 99 or 00
