Got a new optispark, few questions
My bad for all the new threads lately, just keep thinking of more questions as winter rolls around and its time to start blowin money again lol... Im about to replace the optispark in my car this winter, and just wondered if theres anything I should be aware of, or if its a simple un bolt - re bolt type of deal... I did the motor swap myself, and when I did I just bolted the opti from my old motor back up 2 the new long block, I've had a bad miss, and my plugs have been rather prone to fouling out, figured not enough spark, plus the opti on the car has 150k miles on it, and has seen tons of water in just the 25k miles I've owned the car since 06.... Another question would be as to the crank hub, I know the harmonic balancer un bolts, if I take it off do I still need to pull the hub off the crank or will it clear the opti? Can't remember exactly, but I think it will clear, which would save me some hastle...
Thanks in advance

Remove Radiator fans (unplug wiring harness first)
Remove water pump (unplug water temp sensor first, tie hoses back out the way)
Remove Crank balancer (you can get around the hub).
Remove opti
[Take opti apart, put in hew rotor, bolt on new cap.] <-- if only doing cap/rotor
Install is reverse of removal.
Just did a cap and rotor today

you wont need to take the fans out. i got in there no problem just keeping the radiator vertical by tying it to the front support beam.
i posted 2 videos from youtube that were in spanish of a guy testing an opti cap. maybe you can follow what he does?

You can usually open it up and tell if something is wrong. You will need a E4 socket to remove the opti screws on the cap. The most common problems are either one or both of the rotor screws has backed out or one of the plastic rivets holding the metal pointer to the rotor has broken. If you don't see either, open up the base and usually the optical disk or sensor will be corroded/rusted/bent. If you see none of the above, the opti might be ok, but it's not worth the risk to me to put it back in.

I did a MSD Billet Opti about 2 months ago Spuds. Wasn't that hard. Took me about 5 hours taking my time, of course with the support of 2 friends and a case of beer helps. lol. Runs like a champ now! Just make sure to get the dowel pin in the back of the opti and before putting everything back on bump the ignition to make sure you've got everything good.
