I am currently putting in my cam and realated parts. I removed the spark plugs to change out the valve springs using a cylinder compressor. After re-installing spark plug number 2 I noticed a very fine (1/8") crack on the insulator. This crack is covered by the boot and I put a good coat of electric grease in the boot to prevent any moisture or dirt from entering the core. (until I can get a new one.)

Later I was cleaning my gasket surfaces with a razor and my sister distracted me, resulting in my thumb getting sliced wide open. My concern is more on the spark plug then getting stitches though.. I used my left hand (thumb thats cut) to put the spark plug in and I couldnt get my right hand inbetween the strut tower and head/exhasut.

If I have a mis-fire in cylinder 2 I am wondering if I will be able to access the spark plug with the engine back together and my thumb healed? Any special way you guys normally go at it?

I seemed to have the most difficulty with cylinder 2's spark plug.

The spark plugs on the passenger side are difficult to get to...patience and the right tools/extensions are key. But I would stongly recommend replacing the spark plug now, since you know its cracked. No point in doing the same work twice, especially if its more accessibly now.

I tried to reuse the old ones (they are fairly new). If I do get a misfire I will just replace them all because im sure if that one had a fine crack on it, others would too. I would swap the one out now but I barley got it in with my hand in one piece, I cant see myself getting it in easily, so it would be in my best interest to wait for my hand to heal and replace them all.. IMO.

If the plugs had more than 50k on them and were removed, I would NOT have put them back in. Just my $0.02.

also take note on the angle the plugs are set in the head. thatll go a long way and save you time on guessing. heres somewhat of a description.

Reaching plugs can be a bit of a pain.
I generally reach 2,4 from the top and 6,8 from the bottom.
It can be easier if you remove the alt or starter. (both easy to do, just remember to disconnect the battery first)

If you have deleted the emissions crap its a lot easier to get the #2 plug in. I imagine its a piece of cake for those out there who have deleted their A/C.

I like to use the SLP socket and a ratchet wrench to get the pesky ones.

yeah with headers there still abit tricky to get to those spark plugs on the passenger side. def replace is before you have arcing to the head and run the risk of really Fing something up

LT1's like blood. #2 can be hard, it's easier if you move the power steering reservoir.

The thumb is doing a lot better, almost healed with no stitches. I have been using a **** load of cut ointment.

The start up went fine and only threw one code for having the cruise control cable a little too tight (RPM too high at idle P0 507), but I adjusted that and erased the code. Since then no code, *knocks on wood*. Like I said the crack (if it was a crack) was very very small.

Wow your engine compartment is looking clean as hell, and its red so the blood will blend in... The comment about the super glue is right on, I hate to say it buy I've worked in an ER and its very common for them to use superglue on lascerations, esp finger or other things that flex and move.... just get a brand new bottle clean the cut out first with hydrogen peroxide and have at it.... Otherwise good lookin out guy....

Ha, that pic was taken as I was checking the level one last time. The engine is very clean, considering it has not even been steam cleaned for the whole time I have owned it. I have wiped it and put on some armor all.
