I have a buddy that has a 2001 LS1 Trans-AM not a WS6 :drive: he says he is not spraying it but another buddy of mine just bought an 03 Cobra and they ran both bone stock and the LS1 beat him pretty good :eek2: we cant figure out whats done to it cause he beats WS6's with stuff done to them like nothing when they are on Nittos and he is on bald street tires. He just passes them like they are sittin still on the other end. Could like a set of gears make it do that I'm so dumbfounded on this if you think you know please let me know what it is. Oh and the car does have a flowmaster and on slicks he ran 12.90 :bang:

If his car only runs 12.90s and beats the Cobra badly, that means the Cobra owner can't drive worth a damn.
A WS6 isn't any quicker than a regular TransAm. Its basically just a body-kit and a hood, and the 17" wheels actually slow the car down a bit.
Stock O3 Cobras with "normal" drivers run low 13s because they are heavy and difficult to launch.

12.85 @ 111mph on a 2.4 60' in my '03 Cobra with only a dyno tune. A 1.7 60' puts me at an 11.8 in the 1/4 mile. I'm not going to post numbers with all the new mods yet.

On second thought...a 1.7 60' would put an LS1 at an 11.8 in the 1/4 mile. It would most likely put my '03 Cobra at a 12.1-12.2 or so due to it being a tank.

You need about 112 mph trap speeds to sneak into the 11s, thats with a 1.70 60' or better. Just a good estimate, using an efficient drivetrain setup.

That's why I put myself in the low 12's. We're both on the same page Tony.
dconn69- The bottom line here is that either your buddy with the LS1 has nitrous or mods he's not telling you about OR the guy in the '03 Cobra is an idiot.
I doubt a set of gears (even 4.10's) would help that much considering the Cobra has 3.55's

Well the guy with the cobra is not an idiot. He has mods done to it know and my other buddy with the LS1 wont run him. The cobra spins very bad on slicks and runs mid 11's. I dunno I'm thinking he has a kit on the LS1 though.

He spins on slicks? What's he pushin' to the wheels...1500hp? :D Mid 11's in an '03 Cobra is child's play and that's on street tires.

mid 11's on a bone stock cobra???
my friend has the same car we ran 2 nights ago just for shits a giggles... the little amount of stuff i have done to mine (see below) we ran 4 times each time we both got a decent launch and we are both decent drivers... so no missed gears or any thing each time i walked him by a car length at least ... does that mean my car is running 10.5 no. my car runs low 13's at best.

The Trans Am sounds like it's running good. I think the problem is that your friends competition doesn't know how to drive. Cobras also have a hasrder time trying to hook-up due to independant suspension instead of live rear axles which is better for drag racing. :burn:

I noticed in the original post you did not mention the tranny in the WS6. It is very possible that if the WS6 is an automatic that he has a high stall torque converter in there. He could be using a 3800-4400 TC and on Nittos or better that could get him well into the 12's even with everything else stock.
If he's a manual six speed then a hidden bottle or mild cam that he's not mentioning.
Just my guesses.

Ok bottom line is I was just curious about the LS1 part. I know alot of F body guys hate mustangs . Sorry for bringing that up, but I have been around this stuff for a while and I know what I'm talking about. I watched the race he ran in the cobra and he was running a set of M/T ET Drags 28x10.5x15 on Weld Aluma Stars. And he DID spin through 4th gear. He had 11 lbs of air in them and got the tires good and hott. Anyways not trying to start anything just saying thats how it runs know. It's definitely not stock anymore. :drive:

He spun the tires thru 4th w/ ET Drags, after he heated them up? WTF :bs:
Stock vs. Stock, the 03Cobra and the 02LS1 are very close (low 13's). Drivers and mods usually make the difference.
