Northwest Members - GM considering nixing Pontiac

It is time for all of us to write GM;s head, (Richard Wagoner) and let them know what a stupid idea this is. These guys were just talking about buying Chrysler, now a month later are talking about selling Pontiac, Saturn and Saab. Talk about an irratic thought process!
It is not good for any of the big three if car divisions keep dying off, Plymouth, Oldsmobile..........

I'm tired of GM ruining SAAB. But Pontiac needs to stay. If anything they should abolish GMC me thinks...

I love my pontiac.
With that being sad; Kill it. I don't see how selling it would help. Just ruin the image more. GM needs to cut out redundant models. Keep Chevy for econo cars/light trucks/SUVs. Caddilac for luxury cars. GMC for medium/heavy duty.

I do not want to see pontiac go but get tired of every one yelling kill GMC. Put GMC back where they started and belong and Chevy back to light trucks and all is well there.
The Big three have to do some thing guys or they will just flat be gone. Our government is not going to step in and help them the way the foreign countrys will help theres ;)

I wonder if that has anything to do with the country's job market being so shitty:secret2:

LOL it goes way deeper then that but lets not get in trouble talking about the wrong stuff here ;)
Besides we need to keep trying to save homes for people who could not afford them to begin with :D

Sadly, what I think what the Big 3 need to do is get rid of the unions. According to what I can find those workerrs are horribly over-paid (for what they do & what they know). I find it a little outrageous for guys that assemble cars to make over $70 / hr!

While this is their total compensation pkg (medical, 401k, etc) that still means they get paid at least $50 / hr. Rediculous! Unions are supposed to make sure workers don't work in sweat shops & live at substandard levels. I wish I had it this rough, but then all I do is design & fix airplanes....:bang:

Saab was heavy into turbo technologies and top end torque. the pre-GM 900S is probably one of the finest cars around, especially since they beat testarossas of the same year from 60-100. GM just took away Saab's innovation.

Dont believe everything you read please.
But the back lash of Gm killing one of their brands is almost as bad as GM selling to any other company.
We have had this talk on Camaro5 a few times & the repsonse is always the same from Fbodfather (AKA Scott Settlemire) It would cost more money to disband a brand then it is keeping it.

Mark, actually they make $28-$33 per hour. What is killing them is that their huge number of retirees get upgraded COLA, and lump sums etc. Whereas most companies, like Boeing, when you retire, you don't get any further lump sums or increased COLA, increased benefits etc.
Here is the GM/UAW 2007 contract.

Amen to that, but people had better write a letter, and not procrastinate about it. In the early 80's Ford talked about canceling the Mustang. I remember watching the Head of Operation guy at Ford saying that Ford never in the history of the company had ever received so much mail concerning one subject. He also said that 100% of the letters were opposed to the idea, not one was in favor. He also said the majority of letters questioned their heritage, for even thinking of such an idea!
GM needs to hear from people. If this Ford guy took time to write a letter to GM, then GM people sure as heck should write!

Bingo. It's not the hourly wage, it's the benefits that are costing the company big time.

It also doesn't help that the G8 is selling at only about half of the expected volume. It doesn't bode well when their plans were to increase production when the new plant gets on line in Canada.

Why don't they just combine all brands together? Maybe they could call the new brand CheuickCadummerSaaGMCiac?
Just think of all the savings. Well, emblems may cost a tad more but savings on marketing, dealerships etc etc

I love Utes. When i was down in New Zealand, they were all over the place. Ford Falcon, Holden Commodore, awesome vehicles and a lot of fun to drive. I know I'll be looking at an ST.
