Default Well I should've quit while i was ahead guys BLOWN REAR atleast!

Well talking to Nickolbag and a bunch of other friends everyone was about going to the track today. So after saying nah I got what i want no need. I come to my senses and say sure I can try some things with the car with shifting at different RPM's to see what I can do about the high MPH trap. Well I go down 1.5hour drive as usual. I get there let the car cool and video some friends. I come up and make a pass. Tires are set at 15psi. I always make a pass at 15psi and lower according to how i feel the track is hooking etc. Well I go up and spin almost all of 1st gear hard to a 1.677 60ft and get a 11.06@128.19mph. I shifted my 2-3 and 3-4 at nearly 6800-6900rpm to see if I could get the MPH lower at the end but keep my ET. Well I noticed holding 3rd gear the car picked up 3 mph in the 1/8th. It ran 102.2x in the 1/8th instead of the 99mph it was running last week in perfect air. So that was a 3mph gain in the 1/8th mile. So I came back around and after several cars oiling down the track and them only running one lane I get back up. I do a nice burnout and pull up and say i'm not gonna launch the car as hard to not blow the tires off and had the tires at 13.5psi. I pull up and launch and the car bogs badly as I watch the RPMs fall to below 4000rpms and pull back up through. Well I knew the run was junk but did it anyways. So with a 1.58 60ft bogged badly i shift slightly lower and get a 100mph in the 1/8th and 128mph in the 1/4 at 11.04 ET. So I think ok the tracks back to hooking and with a bog running that and the prior run spinning I decide to keep the tire pressure and launch alot harder. I pull up and dont even do a big burnout. I hear the tires sticking as i pull up to the line and think to myself here we go this is going to be a easy 10.8x pass at 129mph and I pull up rev the car to 6k rpms and go to let the clutch out and rolls about 1ft and BOOM!!!!!!!!!! All i hear is shrapnel and carnage coming from the back of the car and on video it looks way worse! I get out of the car start pushing back. Tow truck comes and I get under there to strap it on and notice the rearend fluid leaking on the ground. So it had to split the case to leak like that. I just really hope I didnt hurt the tailstock, mainshaft of the trans. I have a stock 3.42 rear but i'm not thinking i want to put that in. So I could be in for some serious trouble but wont know till i take it apart. This all sucks really bad and didnt expect I day like this to happen to me. Atleast it didnt happen down at Atco or something. So thats it folks I tried to back up my 10sec pass and was rewarded with atleast a blown rear. I basically got the PITTSman syndrome.

Sorry to hear that Bruce. There is no way to get around the rears being weak and when you consider the fact your letting a clutch out its just a matter of time for all of us. Let me know if I can help you.

Well, what can you say. Stuff happens but I will say dumping it at 6k will at some point break parts and if your not breaking parts, then your not going fast. So take that with yea, fix the rear to be better then what it was and go from there.

1bigcam-video shows the car actually move 1foot then boom no more movement just stops dead in its tracks. My guess is the 1ft is before the clutch was let out enough to grab.

Harner-I race at Cecil usually. I raced at Beaver once.

Dont have a built rear laying around do ya Slowhawk?

Fran you are a DICK! Glad to hear your crew went slow as usual Back at ya!

Got one of those stage 3 rear's here.Too bad it only lasted 2 weeks before sheering the gears out of it.
I can't count how many wrecked C5 rears we've pulled. No reason to be upset that the rear broke, should be happy it lasted as long as it did. I've broken them on the 1st run before.Brake a stage 4 rear in 1/2 on it's first launch.
