Default Does discount tire really "guarantee" the price match?

I tried to do a "price match" with tomzwheels sumitomo deal through the discount tire in SM. They wouldnt match it, bc they'd "lose money", even though when he answered the phone he said "Discount tire, we beat any prices GUARANTEED". So I called a discount tire in austin, and they said they'd match it no problem. Was a little odd to me. I understand that they 'may' lose money on the sumitomo deal, but then again, they shouldnt guarantee beating prices IMO. I think they should have taken the deal, just to honor their motto (whether or not they'd make money or not). Can someone fill me in?

I have a feeling that the SM location was supposed to match it. He just decided not to.

I never had a problem with pricematching. I bet their corporate office would be interested in hearing that.

I work for the one in Waco, and we're supposed to match it every time, it is company policy. But some managers, in that instance, will not do it because they don't want to lose money.

So do you think theres anything I can do? I havent gotten the tires yet. But it would save me a ~20minute drive, and the principle of it.

And yes the principle. The guy was a MF douche over the phone. And this discount tire is literally a 10 second drive. I can see it from my apartmnet, lmao.

Like was said earlier. I bet corporate would love to hear about it. Give them the guys name you talked to, and I bet you end up with your price match and then some.

OK. Call again and try once more, talk to the manager from the get go, get the name in the beginning. Maybe this time they will do it and you wont have to make another call.

Hassle? Hardly. I can make a few phone calls from my apt, with no hassle at all.

And wait... does tomz ship for free now? No, I'll buy local for the same price, unless Im driving through belton.

If you must hassel to make them match price , they MAY skimp on quality work on your car,I would not chance it to save a 20 min driven fact I would not allow anyone to work on my car if they were mad about anything, a good rule is do not make your Dr. or your mechanit mad before service from eather
just my .02' Johnny

If they damage my NEW wheels, I'll be sure to have them pay for that too.

I was planning on taking the tires elsewhere bc they want $25 to mount and balance each wheel. I'll pass on that one.

Just contact the AVP for that division, and heads will roll. They do here in Houston anyway....I used to work there for 7 years. Anytime someone called the office they got what they wanted even when it wasnt justified. But in your case they should have honored the deal.

Good Luck!!

I work at a competing tire shop, and I will price match, my onyl stipulation is if its an online source, you have to figure shipping into their price, since its included in ours.

I try to stay on good terms with the guys at discount some friends even work there but they have gotten to me a few times. Alot of their customers tell me they wont print out an estimate bevause they dont want people going around town getting lower and lower prices.
I offer to print out any estimate and encourage people to get other prices.

The other time one of the guys got me real good, I called to get a price from them for a customer so I could price match it, expecting them to be honest as I would, but they gave me a ridiculously low price, after road hazard and tax it was lower than my cost of the tire. I still sold it for that price though, haha.
