zune's are cheaper...both aesthetics and price...they just feel cheap
i like my ipod but the stupid touch sensitive thing on the front is finicky...still i would get an ipod over zune.

ive had both, one reason i didnt like my zune (had the 30 gig first gen) had shitty battery life, and was really bulky.
the interface on it was better but was really buggy. so i switched back to the ipod and wont look back

Never had an Ipod and never will (you can get more bang for the buck elsewhere, I think), but I do have a 30GB 1st Gen Zune and despite the fairly disappointing battery life, I really like it.
It's not something you carry around when jogging or excercising etc., but that's not what I wanted it for. I wanted it for the numerous trans-Atlantic/Pacific flights I take each year. Hence the size didn't matter.
Once the 4/8GB 2nd Gen Zunes come down to the $100 level, I'll probably get one of them, too. They are really nice and slim.

well i ask because she bought a zune (i dont know what size) for our Christmas gift swap. She will probably end up going home with it but i had planned on getting her an ipod already. If the zune is worth a damn i will let her keep that and get her something else.

With the Zune you have to use the Zune program, of course, but it's not too bad.
I really liked my old SanDisk Sansa E260 where you could just drag and drop. No syncing etc. needed. Simple as that. I'm not big on creating any playlists etc. fancy stuff so the drag and drop works the best for me.

you can turn the zune into a portable hard drive with no mods to it at all, you have to change some registry keys in each computer that you hook it up to to transfer data though.

Zune is good if you just want an MP3 player and do not plan to integrate it with other electronics. iPod kicks the Zune *** pretty bad in accessories and interfaces with other brands. I have the new Alpine deck in one of my cars, it was designed to control iPods and it works excellent. My alarm clock also has an iPod jack, which allows you to wake up to your own choice of music, etc... The iPod is just better supported.
