how can i toughen up my ten bolt want to toughen up my ten bolt how do i.....i would just buy a 12 bolt but the car is never raced or launched.....so i figure if i just toughen it up it will be ok

I agree its really a waste of money. But if your not going to the track or running sticky tires you can by a T/A Diff cover. I know plenty of sponsers sell them on here. Good luck!

If you're running an A4, it might survive awhile. However, by the time you tally up the money spent to toughen up the 10 bolt, you'd be pretty close to the amount needed to buy a 12 bolt/9"/S60.
If you're running an M6, don't waste your time with the 10 bolt.

Disagree.. The T/A cover has been said to be for looks for the most, mainly by people that have had them.. they're weak and there's no polishing a turd, as previously stated.

Werd, the 10 bolt will break no matter what you do. Just save up some money for a GOOD rear. If it's an auto, it'll live a little while, but will still let go in time, and possibly take out the transmission with it. Hell mine damn near did.

I had a 383ci IROC with 400+ RWHP and I never had any issues with my 10 bolt (which I believe had a smaller ring gear than those from a 4th gen). I even had Goodyear GSC-S tires (shaved/soft compound).
I never took it to a track, and it was an automatic, but you should be ok If this is your daily driver and you don't have the money to spend. If you can do the work yourself, then get a TA Performance cover, with the bearing support stud kit/option.
I've also heard about people completing the welds where the axles tubes are welded to the differential housing.
It really all comes down to what type of transmission you have, your driving habits, what are your plans for the car, how handy you are to do the work yourself and how much money you have.

no matter what u do to a 10 bolt, be it auto or stick, the 10 bolt is gonna break. save your money and upgrade. i think between me and 5 of my ls1 buddies we've blown up over 20 10 bolts. stockers to 10 sec rides the result will be the same given time.

You can do anything you want, its still going to be a weak link. An automatic transmission is a little easier on them but not much. In my car i try not to grab 1-2 or 2-3very hard to save it from grenading. But I can bark the tires going into 4th.

I think its kinda funny how many people think the 10 bolt will just vaporize itself at any moment on a car not making much power. I know and agree its weak. Thats been proven over and over. But to tell someone whos not tracking the car and "says" he wont race it that his rear end is like glass is pretty dumb. There are lots of people with power pounding these rear ends. 75+% are auto's. Point is Op... throw a cover and a set of axles if you really are going to baby it.. Just realize its still a 10 bolt.

yes you can upgrade a 10 bolt for the street (notice I said street) with just a few little tricks, up grade the axles, weld the tubes to the housing (GM only used two spot welds on each tube) add a ARP stud kit to the caps (GM bolts are weak), install a quality mfg ring and pinion (yes they will be noisy, so what!) change the bearing, etc. and yes a TA cover! And that is all for less than $750. If your going to race the car and beat the hell out of it well yes you need to upgrade to 12 bolt, etc. I personally as a matter pride will never put a "Ford" 9" in my SS.
