Default Making the Leap to Engine Mods :)

So i have finally decided to make a leap to start modding the engine. My obsession has grown and i have to meet the demand.

Now i don't know jack squat about engine mods, can anyone tell me and show some links as to what parts are available for the LS4.

I have heard of compcams and their ls2 camshaft. Is this going to be compatible and if it is will i have to buy an supplemental parts to make it compatible with everything else into the engine. Basically do i need other "new" parts to make the "new" parts work?

Do you guys recommend i do anything to the tranny as of yet? So far i feel it is holding up and doesn't show signs of overheating or major slipping. An auxiliary cooler and aluminum pan will help keep temps down, so i probably will do that with the engine mods.

Are these engine mods reliable and keep the LS4/rest of the car just as reliable as it is in stock form?

You need to have a plan on what you want to do and go from there if you are going to
go way up in HP you will need to strengthˇen the tranny.

im pretty sure i got all the basic bolt ons available for this car except maybe the throttle body spacer and after-market MAF. one thing that sucks is that i have lost a good amount of low end torque, so im thinking about putting back the stock intake and just getting an K&N panel filter.

Anyway, back to the engine mods. Ive been searching the forums and i see that most people are doing rockers, pushrods, and valve springs. I saw alot of companies as well (compcams, Crane, Harland Sharp, Summit, patriot performace, etc...). Im looking for a definitive answer from those people who have done these mods as to what parts/companies are most recommended.

Do these parts offer the same or better reliability if any as the stock components? Are they easy enough to do them yourself?

Thanks.

you can use any ls1/6 components. yella terra, harland sharp, etc rockers. 1.8 if youre not gunna be switchin the cam later. most people do the comp springs/pushrods/retainers/locks. but ls6 beehive are good too.

i would wait til someone does that dod cam swap before i spent anythign on parts that may not be needed.

Texas speed has hardened pushrods and everything else as well.

I'm using comp 7955-16 pushrods with harland sharp 1.8 rockers on the PRC 5.3L Stage 2.5 heads.

Search on ebay too. Might find stuff cheaper.

Hey do those 5.3 stage 2 heads make a difference?? they sound good on paper, but what do they do to the drivability of the car...ie where do those extra potential 40hp become significant?
