Is this typical?
I have 275's in the rear... coming from an E36 M3, that's pretty damn wide.
But for some reason I have ZERO traction in first gear. Off the line... from a roll, or even at a 4k RPM roll, it just spins the tires. Second gear and on i have traction.
So.. looking at the mods in my sig, is the typical? What size would you guys recommend and do you think i'll need different rims?

275/40/17 - yep. But i have some really cheap tires. I forget the name, sumutimo or something. Came with the car. I mean, they're in brand new condition... but they are about 5 years old and the rubber doesn't even squeal when you spin the tires because the car was sitting for 5 years.

Sumitomo's are cheap tires...did I mention cheap? They work for getting you to point A to point B. Anyways, yes those Nitto NT555's will work . Obviously you will need 275/40/17. They ran me 162 a tire. Most places will be a bit higher. I played the pricing game America's Tire Co sold me mine.

Yeah I have new tires as well but they don't grip worth a damn! I could lay a strip up the entire 1/4 mile if I wanted.

I was running the BFGDR's but they're lifespan is so short, I was going broke buying them, even when I "took it easy" on them . I tried the Sumitomos and while they've considerably outlasted any set of drag radials I ever had, they certainly don't have traction when I get into it.
I do think the Sumitomos have better grip in the rain. And less than a hundred bucks for the 315/35/17 size!

Yeah, well the sumitomos have less rubber on the ground then the nittos or the bfgdr's. I'm gonna go with the nittos, they can still be driven in the rain

I won't deny my DRs don't stick the best in wet conditions, but I was DAMN surprised at how well they did. It took a fair amount of water on the road for me to finally experience some rear and hydro action, and it was on the highway. Which, isn't exactly good heh, but slow speeds even with me getting on the gas, I kept traction. Moist roads or mist/light rain isn't much of a problem. I'm running M/T drag radials in 255/45R16.
I have some Goodyear Eagle GS-C's that'll be going on for winter once I get my trans done. No, I don't WANT to drive it in the winter, but I have to. Once the trans gets back in, parents are selling their POS 02 Protege (horse **** in the rain and 10x worse in snow) and so I'll be giving up the 'Yota Crapolla

Yeah BFG's are rated at something like 3000 miles before they are toast and the Nitto 555r's are about 10-15,000 miles based on average driving. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
