can the ignition module connector be replaced by splicing the wires or do I need to replace the whole engine wiring harness?

I have a 98 bird with a 3.8 that keeps burning the module. the car is on its third, the code is random missfire and it does missfire randomly. plugs have been changed and wires re-routed, coils replaced, still same problem.

A friend told me he's found that the wires end at the connector get hard from the heat and makes the moodules fail. can this be true?

anyone else with different diagnostic/fix?

The wires shouldn't get hard from the heat, the contacts in the connector could go bad. You should ba able to buy a service connector and replace it or go to the junk yard and cut one off a harness, most yards don't save or sell the wiring, when pulling motors

where do you get those service connectors?

Also, I have another wiring harness I can use, do I replace the whole harness or just cut and splice the connector?

There are vendors on here that sell pigtails. You can buy new from the dealer but they're pricey and if you want to replace the connector, you can new along with the pins, but you'll need a special crimper to put them on.
