Rate your 2008 Racing Season!
Since the 2008 season is over or close to shutting down for some (even my local track shuts down for 6-7 weeks for the "PROS" to rent/test), I and decided to add this topic & poll.
So post up and let us know how ya did! Anything you want to share, from:
a new best
to winning a round or two
winning your first race
slapping a friend around in grudge racing
breaking stuff
....well you get the idea.
I managed another great year, although I had my share of bad luck too with losing close rounds. But still more positive than negative
I tore my Nova apart at the end of 2006, and since the 1 year project became 2, the wife "loaned me" the DD Formula to race this season. 1 Super Chevy, 1 NMCA event, 7 points races, and finally the B.O.P.C yesterday.
Here are my 2008 race season notes:
- Borrowed a car that I had never driven before and managed to go three rounds at Super Chevy, 3 at an event in Bradenton (my first 2 races running a delay box car), wheels up at 10.30s!
- made one final round, but screwed up the stripe to give away a sure win.
- Compiled a 30 win - 17 loss in rounds.
-Got a new PB from the Formula: 12.91 at 108, 2.004 60 foot N/A, 11.85 at 121.90 mph, 2.05 60 foot on a 120 hp nitrous shot. No, I don't need sticky tires, stocky converters and 3.23 gears suck but have held up for 150,000 miles!
Hopefully my "old school" Nova will be done next year for some single digit passes and a NHRA pros license
Okay, I'm done! YOUR TURN! Let's hear it, and don't hold back!

I would have to say that this year was not my best but I did win 2 races this season. I finished 12th in the N/E points at HRP(Missing 2 races) & 4th in 6.60 index at HMP(missing 3 races).
I didn't race as much this season as in the years passed. I made 44 less run in 08 than in 07
I did have my share of troubles this season. I had trouble this summer blowing the tire off at the hit. We worked very hard to fix the problem with not much luck(tq arm settings, travel limiter settings & even brand of radial slicks).
I also busted another oil pan the mid of Nov. when the weather got real good. Fixed her up for the last race of the season over Thanksgiving weekend & get drilled in the 2nd round with a .000 perfect light to my .032 light. I ran dead on with a 0 to his 1 over with a 2. My season in a nut shell.
I look forward to the 09 season.

got beat by like four .00X lights. Let one guy by me (worst day of my life), broke out three times by less than a hundreth in very tight races.... Frustrating year but it was a brand new car, and I actually used my trans am to race the first points race, came out fresh with my 69' camaro and took some time to get used to. Missed a race to go to Alaska, but i still qualified for the bracket nationals in maple grove... So for being 19 in my rookie year with the odd's against me, I guess i didnt do soo bad. But I still hate loosing, so im still going with Frustrated as my word for the 2008 season.

great year for me, 150 passes, only raced a few competativbe events. 2 were heads up first one I went to the semi finals in the super street class... The second heads up event I went out first round.
Went a few rounds in some bracket events... Like david said bracket racing with turbo stuff isnt easy.
I had a blast though... Got my 4000lbs s-10 in the 9's on only 13lbs of boost. and witha 60E to boot!

Had some good events this year and some where I did terrible. Early in the year I made it to the finals in Sportsman at the All Chevy event @ Moroso w/ the GTO. Also made it down to 4 cars once in the Summit points series (Sportsman) in Orlando and made it down to 8 cars 3 times. Finished in 15th place @ the end of the season and could have gone to division finals in Atlanta but stayed home to get ready for World Street Nationals.
Made it to the finals once @ Lakeland and down to 4 cars once there in Sportsman. Ran at Heads Up Madness @ Sunshine at 3 events and was #1 qualifier in 6.50 index at one evnt w/6.501 and ran a few bracket events there but I never even won a round all year at St Pete.
I ran for the 5th straight year at World Street Nats and finally qualified for the 1st time. I had to run the #1 qualifier in Heavy Street Kenny Doak who qual with a 7.22 @ 202.52. I was ready for my whopping on race day but he broke and I got a 1st round bye run and actually beat the #1 qualifier with my 3700lb streetcar!!
I did break 2 tranny's and broke an oil pump/spun a bearing , and also broke a Yank and a Fuddle converter this year.

Well I have not really thought this through but chose not my best but great.
- I had one of my greatest moments winning the Late Model Shootout at Atco.
- I did better at Memphis LSX Showdown than last year.
- Locally, finished 13th out of 80 I think in Corvette Challenge and won an event in this series for the first time in like four years.
- Struggled big time with the NA Shootout series. Lost quite a few by thousandths/hundredths and found myself mid index all year.
- Broke more than I have ever before. Three rears this year. This hurt my points series'
- Got the car to run 1.35 short time once I switched to FTI Competition Converter!

A good year, but had 3 motors break within 6 months. Not what I expected since I am not a 9-second car. I was sure this was going the be "the season" - You know that feeling you get at the beginning of the year when your car feels strong and you feel confident then BAM! Car was turned up too high on the timing so the stock bottom end finally let go after 3 hard years of drag racing. The second time we upgraded to forged internals with stock sizes and raised the compression A LOT, then it threw another #6 bearing due to oiling issues I was unaware of. #6 hates me! The third motor lasted about 2 months, took it to the LSX Shootout and ran my best pass of 10.60 All Motor! Not bad, only after that 3/8 plugs blew off during a run in Memphis so we ran a 10.70 on a 10.50 Index. I cut a .004 light on a Pro Tree in that round and still lost due to additional mechanical failure! Talk about pissed! It was very tense for us because at the last minute we changed the Index from 11.00 to 10.50, because we had faith that the car would run it. Car is under the knife now for the winter and I hope to see it through 1 motor next year!
On the positive side, I did win the "Pontiac Southern Nationals" at SAR, then that same weekend took home Runner-Up at the "Clash of the Titans" 11.00 Index race! I never felt so good in my life winning so much in 1 weekend! Also, I got a feature story in the GMHTP November issue and was very excited/proud of that. I like to see the "little" people do well.
Good Luck to all in the 2009 season and here's to most of us in the hopes of staying together!

Not big thing, but I went from having a stock 13sec car to 11sec stock internal car within owning the car less than year, soon to crack 11.5s. Also first time ever racing at the track, back in march. Now I got about 100+ passes in and my drag radials are almost done...lol
