Question Help decide New heads for FI LT1?

Hi guys…

Original stock heads (although upgraded- roller rockers, larger springs and valves) might need replacing.

They were shaved twice due to warping already...(First time I blew up the stock engine with 12# and a bad tune, no snow- but now it’s a forged 355 with a better tune and water injection.)

Well, maybe that’s why they warped the second and possibly now a third time–too much material taken off? The last guy said I was getting REALLY close. NOW I have another head gasket leak, smoke out the back and fouled plugs.

No…luckily there is no puffing out the valve cover and comp/ leakdown test is OK.

• What heads? ( 99.999% Street car - S/C is more than enough sodon’t need high end…just reliable strong heads that can handle more lift and flow better than stock. )

My Stock heads were mildly ported with larger springs, valves and roller rockers added but I don't have those specs now. ( I just don't want to go backwards with underperforming new heads, you know!)
Edelbrock Performer Heads are about 1000 bucks @ Jeg’s and Summit and seem OK for the job…?
I could live with that price but no higher please!

• What chamber ccs do I need to get down to 9.8:1 CR? ( Right now I’m at about 10.2:1 which unfortunately invites detonation- (sure is great for throttle response though! )

I am overseas right now so I’m a little short on info, like you probably would like to know exact Cam lift and are the pistons out of the hole or level-zero at TDC… but here is what I got:

Black 94 Z28 A4 Vert
Vortech 12# ( Maybe we will put the stock 8# pulley back on ) , Snow water/meth inj., 355, Stock Crank, JE forged pistons, Eagle Rods, Lunati 242/248 @ 114 or 112?, .568 lift?, Dyno'd 437 RWHP with mild detonation, backed off timing to 418 RWHP.

Hooker super comp LTs, x cats, x air, MSD, KB Boostapump, Built A4, 3:73, relos and LCA’s, etc. etc. etc.

The mechanic is tearing into it back in Florida now.
I'll try to get the cam lift and TDC piston ht.
THANKS!

We have had excellent results with these Trickflow heads. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com....html?item=663
They are several hundred dollars more than what you were wanting to spend, but we know they work. These heads will drop your compression ratio, your engine builder can figure out exactly what your compression ratio would be with these heads. Bob

Thanks, Rambo

OK, I see at TF's site, they are .600 lift... plenty...
Any other advice anyone?
Wifey will kill me for spending this much although would be a shame not to get comparable killer heads.

I would go TFS heads... send them off to TEA, AI, or LE to get worked over.
