Default Small cam question...

Ok i;m looking at a very sedate cam selection for my DD. I was looking at 2 different ones to be specific.

218/224 .550/.550 116LSA
or
220/224 .570/.580 114LSA

I am torn between the two for a couple reasons:

1) Want to keep lope down, second one looks like it will have less lope from the tighter overlap?
2) The first one will be usable with Yellow Z06 springs, keeping cost down a lil.

I will be keeping the LS1 intake, all emissions equipment and going to shorty headers w/ stock cats. M6 cam, I drive almost 40miles a day to and from work, it must be very manageable in traffic. What do you guys think?

I've been looking into smaller cams also but with the M6 a 224/224 would be just streetable as the 220/224. Im thinking about the 220/220 or 220/224 myself cant make up my mind but now that I have found a shop that will pass me with my go fast parts I might do a 224/224 on a 112

224 will pass w/ a good tune anyhow. But I am going to back to as near as stock with my DD as possible aside from the small cam, because i have a project car now that i will be going ***** OUT on that.

personally i'd take advantage of the flow of ls1 heads and go with the higher lift cam.

both should sound similar really. only a good set of ears standing side by side would you be able to tell the difference on identical cars.

I would go with the second one, you will have a little more kick out of it.

The tighter overlap will have a more noticeable lope, the wider overlap will be quieter. So the 1st cam (at -11 degrees of overlap) will be hard to hear, while the second (at -6 degrees of overlap) may be noticeable to a trained ear.

Personally, I would go with the second. I had a recent customer with a 220 comp cam on a 114 and a dual/dual exhaust ... you couldn't tell it was cam'ed. If you already have the yellow springs, then the 1st would be doable.

honestly, i think in cali, some guy are passing with a 224/224 cam on a 114 lsa. but if your running short tube headers with cats, then you might as well look into the cheater cam from thunder racing.

What about the second one on a 116 LSA?? I guess i could go with a set of LS6 blue stripe srpings or 918's.

If I had to do it again, I would go with the Comp Cam LS6 Street Replacement Cam....
212/218.......565/.565......115LSA. Per Comp, No tuning required, great power and drivability.
