Default Changed out converters in my car... WOW!

Old converter was a Vigilante 9.5" 2800-3000 on my engine n/a. Car drove around great and would move around at idle in gear. Was very tight up top as well. I'd see a 1200 rpm drop from 1-2 shifting at 7000 rpms. I was very happy with how the car drove and ran.

New converter is a PTC 9.5" spec'd out by Dusty Bradford. I was told by several people to give Dusty a call for a turbo converter. Everyone spoke very highly of him including a local guy I know that goes 6.9's in a stage motor buick with a PTC converter Dusty spec'd.

My friend installed the converter last night along with a set of manifold we had coated inside and out with some 2000 degree piston coating. I don't know how much the coating helped, but this car is totally different.

I tested out the trans brake this morning with the exhaust warmed up. Converter initially flashes to 3500-3700 and starts building boost immediately. By 4000 rpms I have 5psi. It spools amazingly fast, probably twice as fast as the vigilante and it spooled pretty quick in this weather. I'm definately going to need my two step to keep from blowing the launch.

Driving around with this converter is just as impressive as it's ability to spool the turbo. It drives around better than the Vigilante. It's much tighter and almost feels like it's locked up at light throttle. It's amazing how well this drive around. I never thought it would drive better than the Vigilante and I'd have to sacrifice some drivability.

When boost comes up it feels like the converter tightens up really fast, feels different than the vigilante. I'm going to the track tomorrow night so I'll find out how well it does there compared to the Vig.

**Cliffs** had vigilante, switched to PTC specd by Dusty Bradford, OMG so much better, jizzed in my pants.

Can't really say. PTC lost mine after they built it and it took a lot longer than it should have. I've heard they are usually fast, but they weren't for me.

Sounds like the Vig converter was more street friendly!
Is the PTC a Performance Torque Converter or Pro Torque Converter?

Interesting. I am swapping to an art carr for this next season. Looking forward to see how it works compared to that junk ballooned fuddle. Hopefully it can drop a 1/10 or more off my 60ft and stay tight on the big end.

Did a quick test on the 2 step at lunch time when I went to pick up some sonic. With the two step at 4400 the car spooled really fast, much faster than I was expecting. Previously the car would not build any boost on the two step, it would only limit how much boost was being made. 4400 rpms was about 7psi with the vig and it took about 3 seconds to get there if I started spooling from 20" of vac.

This time it went so fast it scared me lol. I had 10psi faster than I knew what to do. The two step always seems to create the first missfire around 400-600 rpms lower than it's actually set and then limit itself to the set rpm. I'll be doing some more testing tonight. I wanna start off at 5-6psi and see what happens to my 60's.

Got the 2 step dialed in last night, 7-9psi @ 3700 rpms depending on how long i'm against it. I can't see it being very easy on the engine mounts, whole car shakes pretty bad, but it works great!

Went 10.1x @135.x twice tonight off some 1.62 60's. I was only leaving off of 5psi unfortunately. Couldn't get the 2 step dialed in like I hoped to. I'll play with it some more next time I go out. The good news is that the converter is better. Leaving with 5psi gets me the same kind of 60's that usually take 8-9psi to get. It's probably best that I didn't launch any harder, there was no track prep and I was told I was moving around a lot on my passes. Gave up after the 3rd pass and went home. There were at least 160 more cars lined up to get in when I left. Having 400 cars trying to race really sucks.
