Nope :bs:
BTW, launch control is now disabled. Too many popped trannys. Now they are disabling it on all vehicles that are coming in for service. Congrats GTR owners, your "void warranty until service" button has just become a "uselss" button. Maybe they'll find something else to do with it!
On a side note, I do like the GTR, just not the "It's a GOD" praise that it is getting. It's a decent car, but it's not THAT good. I'm really getting tired of hearing about it defying physics, too. Especially in straight lines. It's 700 pounds heavier, and has similar power as a C6 Z06. It's got a severe tourqe deficiency. I don't care if it has wonder drive, it's not gonna outrun the Z06, especially at speed. The AWD will help the launch, but that's it. Don't embarass yourself by trying to hang with a ZR1 (which some owners are trying to do). The only way it's gonna beat a ZR1 is if the Z is still spinning the tires at 80 mph.
The GTR is a very good car for the money, though. There, it's earned the qualifier that the 'vette has had for years. I think it's great to have more cars in this growing class of "affordable supercars". The Viper created the class (though I'm sure someone will say that the previous ZR1 did that, and I'm not going to argue cause I think that's a matter of opinion), and the 'vette has been the best in the class for years. Now there's a new kid on the block, and he think's he's bad to the bone. He's about to learn that the fat kids always have trouble keeping up with the skinny kids in the 5K, though.
The ZR1 doesn't even deserve COTY, IMHO, much less the GTR. A much more suitable selection would have been the CTS.
Wow, this turned into a long post. I guess I have an opinion on the matter, huh?

I think it's a damn great car... The only cars I think are better candidates are the ZR1 and the Viper ACR... But that's all sports car stuff... As an enthusiast.
I agree about the CTS being the COTY.

The new CTS-V should be the car of the year. Power luxury and style.

well when you lie about your numbers, lie about your lap time around the nurburgring, then two american cars beat your lap time around the ring, you get brownie points with the a-holes who give out the awards like that. Then there is that tranny issue. Then the car weighs close two tons, doesn't even offer a manual, etc.

And only two mags that get my approval are 0-60 and Grassroots Motorsports, everything else is way to biased or sterile.

none of the mags will do that it would give a american car company credit . Most of these mags are trying to sell to the youngest crowd not the smartest thats why you see so much junk on so many mags .

I, too, believe Nissan lied about the 'Ring lap specifics, but don't forget it has beaten the competition on many, many other tests by now on several road courses by several pro drivers... Except the ACR.
It has not directly been tested against the ZR1 yet by anyone, but I don't think the GTR would have a chance at all on any style road course regardless.

I agree. Saw a special on the Speed channel about it and was very impressed. Never ever would I have expected to see a stock Cadillac w/ these kind of numbers (directly off Cadillac's website): 556 hp @ 6,100 rpm and 551 lb-ft of torque @ 3,800 rpm.

Actually, it has. I think motorweek did it. I'll see if I can find the vid and post a link. IIRC the ZR1 was faster on the test track by like 2 sec. Lap times were in the 1 min neighborhood. That could be wrong, though. Let me see if I can find the vid.....

Amazing article, basically the authors along with Porsche call out the GT-R on their "ring" lap times! http://magazines.drivers-republic.com/driversrepublic/thetruth030/

You mean using a different stop/start locations as other testing, using non-stock racing tires, and possibly using the spec v engine (the one that car and driver got for their first test of the GTR that put out impossible numbers for it's advertised numbers) isn't fair? Say it ain't so, lol.
And the warranty and tranny issues top it off. Yes it's a very nice car for the money, but American car companies aren't the only ones that f-up every once and awhile.

I agree their first 'Ring outing was bogus in an (so far) inconclusive way, but the above has never been proven... It's pretty good speculation though.
What the journalists have gotten, since then, have been vouched-for production spec GTR's... Unless you just plain doubt all journalists with hyper-skepticism... And the GTR since then has spanked formidable cars such as the C6 Z06, 911 GT2, etc... It's a faster car around any-style road course, plain and simple... It's just not as fast as the shady, preliminary 'Ring outing led us to believe with giant lap differences between the GTR and its competition... Nissan did something to exaggerate their car's superiority... What they did exactly, though, we still don't know for sure... Just some good speculation...
That the car can outlap nearly all of its competition by a small but significant margin has been clearly proven by now, several times, by several independent testers (not Nissan).
It's been a while since Nissan has a flagship like this in America (350Z does not count IMO)... They clearly forgot how to run a high class sports car segment... They are making mistake after mistake with these tranny issues and the buyers are the ones that get screwed the most.

IIRC, Porsche has been called out in the past for conducting skewed tests on the 'Ring.
But just because the source is suspect does not mean their assessment necessarily is as well... I agree with them to some degree, but even they admit that whatever shady method Nissan used remains unknown.

Can you back this up? Porsche normally under rates their Nurburgring time. Have a look at the Driver Republic review, they state that the Porsche can be driven in the 7:30, the Nissan cant.
Nissan on the other hand has a history of exagerating their nurburgring time. Take for example the 7:59 min achieved by the 270hp Nissan GTR. This was only 4 seconds slower than the Driver Republic R35 and achieved the same time as the more advanced 550hp CTS-V. Even using the same driver produced a lap close to 30 seconds slower.

I was very careful to put "IIRC," lol... No, I don't have anything to back that up. It is something I heard once in a thread somewhere.... No way I could state that as a true fact since maybe I don't remember well what was said exactly... Needless to say, Nissan and Porsche aren't the best of friends since Nissan began declaring their weapon sights were on the Porsche 911 GT2.
Nissan does have a nasty reputation for being shady, huh... What they did once testing an R33 prototype in first party, unofficial tests and then reporting faster times than possible with the car the journalists got is just downright bullshit. They did it again this time with the R35. Their employees that handle the public are liars, and discredit their own company in their effort to "fluff" Nissan up...
Their engineers, however, made a great car... The production-spec models have been out for a while now, and even now journalists and testers are still getting them and beating on them... It ain't the car that ran the 'Ring that's for sure... But it's certainly enough to fend off the Z06's and 911 Turbos out there by a small edge in the hands of many great drivers.
It'd be worth its price if it didn't have all the tranny/warranty bs attached.

Japan had a gentlemen's agreement for a while were no manufacturer could make a car with over 276hp....many people speculate Nissan said their cars only had that much HP but made way more.
