Default Something knocking real loud

Well this is the story...

Me and some friends were leaving a strip club..you know u have to help those fine girls threw college..but that's besides the fact...

We were leaving and and I got into my car like normal...started my ss and it just started to knock REAL loud...my oils fine.. But u did notice th@ my oil pressure was kinda low from normal...usually at regular idle its a about 40.. When it started knockin it went to like 20 30

This is what I think maybe something like a lifter..pushrod..or my oil pump is giving out..or something..but I don't know. Can you guys help me out...

If its a real loud knock that gets louder with rpms it probly a spun bearing. Did you drive it home?

lifter or pushrod sounds more like metal slapping really and can be pinpointed to the top of the engine and a particular side. Bottom end knock sounds louder from the bottom, gets worse with rpm.

Also the loss in oil pressure is a good sign of a spun bearing. The little holes in the crank shaft is what oils the bearings and a tight clearance will make higher oil pressure because it has to jet out of a small space. With a spun bearing the oil will flow to the path of least resistance and just run out insted of have resistance against the hole.

Buddy had a bad knock in his 98 SS. Pulled the valve covers and found a pushrod bent at almost a 90* angle. Check them first, doesn't take long to pull a valve cover. It will help narrow your problem down as well. - Zack

I would drain the oil and see what comes out, if its just normal wear on the magnent I would start by removing your rocker covers and checking the valve train. If there is big chunks of metal coming out you have some big problems.

I'd take the valve covers off, rockers, and check the pushrods. That doesn't take more than an hour to do. While you're there look at the springs.
